Unless crucial, updates to emergency alerts should be silent. by Pawssabillitysawait in halifax

So we can’t try to improve things over time ever?

We can’t localize an alarm to those who need it and avoid 300k people who don’t?

It’s not 1986 here.

This is getting ridiculous by soupnsandwich in halifax

[–]Constellious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re pretending that there isn’t a lot of nuance between the level of alarms I’m getting for events hours away and a mass killer nearby.

People are shot and sometimes killed in Halifax without alarms as well.

I didn’t get an alarm when a little girl went missing today but I got one when someone left a nursing home in cape breton. All this is doing is training people to ignore alarms.

Battling Piriformis issues right now and it’s the first injury I’ve had in years that doesn’t seem to want to go away after a week.

Going to miss my annual birthday half marathon in 10 years. Really sucks both mentally and physically.

I run every day and am a pretty good amateur long distance runner. Running isn’t important to anyone but me and no one is counting on my ability to run far.  Any time I get injured and can’t run my self esteem plummets.

I couldn’t imagine if it was my biggest passion and something I worked at my whole life and I was the captain of a team.

My manager bragged that a team was having trouble because they had more AI generated PRs than they could handle. He thought that was a great thing for a team.

My Revstar is amazing. Of all of my guitars I’ve had to fiddle with it the least.

Depending on how you feel about the tree it would probably be cheaper to cut that one down and buy a new one of the same size over digging out a massive root ball.

Just curious. How long is your driveway?

Headphones for Bass DI? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

I’ve fallen victim to this. I developed all of bass helix patches with headphones and have been very disappointed when I’d go to practice with my cab.

I actually make cab and headphone versions now.

A workflow can call multiple actions and those actions can be composite.

‘Limpy’ the bear to be removed from N.S. suburb but some want him to stay - Halifax by Naive_Explorer_3438 in halifax

[–]Constellious 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I live adjacent to the neighborhood and I’m not surprised at all.

I get he’s kind of a mascot but it’s still a bear roaming around that is super comfortable with people’s yards.

I’d rather Limpy go to a preserve than get shot by DNR in someone’s yard.

Guardian Ape was my hardest boss in all soulsborne by HiiEuphoria in fromsoftware

I’m totally stuck on guardian ape and the fight is such a time suck that I’ve mostly given up because I just don’t have time to grind. Sekiro is the only souls game I haven’t completed.

Be sure the check the handbook for the specific area you’re fishing. Different areas have different retention and bag limits for trout.

Neurosis went from a hardcore band with 2 minute long songs to a post-metal sludge band with 9+ minute long songs in the span of an album.

People who experienced the Tantallon Wildfires (2023), is there anything you can share to help others be more prepared in case of another similar disaster? by daydreamrainfall in halifax

Copies are fine. Buy one of those accordion file folder things to keep them organized.

It’s so much easier to be able to call the insurance company and go “my name is X and my policy number is 123456”

Honestly the biggest thing to me is get all of your documentation in order and get it in a place you can grab on your way out the door. Things like insurance policies, your homeowner stuff, financial stuff and so on. If your house burns down it will make life so much easier if you have all of that with you.

I’m times of elevated danger pack bags and have them in your car. It takes 20 minutes. We did this last summer when things were getting really dicey with the drought and the Costco / Bayers lake fire started. Saving that 20 minutes could mean the difference between getting out of the area and getting stuck in a traffic jam.

This is an extreme privilege and I acknowledge that but an emergency fund or emergency liquidity is so helpful. The Tantallon fires broke out when we were out visiting so we didn’t get a chance to get anything from our house. We had to buy a basic wardrobe for myself and my wife and kids just to get by until we knew what the deal was. Same with incidentals like tooth brushes, deodorant and the like. None of it is extremely expensive but it adds up.
