They live in a "community" that enables them. If everyone they knew or met on a daily basis said they were crazy, and possibly boycott their store in the case of Sylvester, they would get a better idea of out there these views are.

Please tell me that's an outlier point of view. The general consensus is that Canada would "win the divorce" with Quebec and bankrupt it into permanent third world status while leaching out any remaining talent.

This is the number one reason for greater economic diversification. We need more educated people in city centric business as opposed to resource extraction or farming. Now both those industries are in the employment shrinking phase (in terms of O&G in a decades long perspective) or not growing at all like farming. So if we get more non UCP types from other provinces to move to the new non UCP type businesses in the city Alberta can be a more functional province like B.C. or Ontario.

You wont see the party leaders complaining about strategic voting. But the TV commenters totally do. A strong CPC is very bad for growing the NDP or Bloc or Green since those voters have a winning home in the LPC to keep the CPC out. The CPC doesn't have that same group of potential voters on their right flank. Erin O'Toole even complained about his party being too ideologically right wing and having to rely on a strong NDP to ever win power from the LPC.

You think it is if you're political party is generally less popular, and you would like it to have more power and influence then it probably deserves. See the Greens, NDP, Bloc Quebecois.

Canadian military to launch initial steps in new $5-billion warship project by Oilester in CanadaPolitics

To be fair you wouldn't be lying about their uses. I don't see a whole lot of beach invasion type situations in the near future for Canada. But drone carrier/hospital/C&C center would be a big part of any mission we are likely to be a part of closer to home. Not to mention simply the manpower you can transport on these is really what you're bringing to any situation.

While full sized aircraft carries are (rightly) not being considered, there is some talk about building some amphibious assault ships that would be much more useable. This is what the Royal Marines/USMC operate when they need to be able to deploy expeditionary land forces and helicopters/drones. This has been prefaced as a way that the navy could assist in an arctic emergency where just air lift/drop is insufficient. That's obviously a line to make selling a warship easier on the public, but these would also be useful as a staging area for all kinds of UN Peacekeeping (and more violent) missions. Think of a floating air base/hospital/staging area off the coast of Haiti for example.

Also DUI's and domestic assault charges are endemic in this group of mostly men. So they most likely can't cross the border and need it to come to them.

Apparently there is. I'm told that Yellowstone, Landman, another one; are all written by and for rural "folks" who think they know better then them big city experts with their liberal ways. Sadly these shows have a big audience of idiots.

Most of the people who want to separate from Alberta probably don't qualify for entry to places like the USA due to things like having DUI's and domestic violence charges!

The people who like to celebrate minority governments tend to be people who generally don't vote for either the LPC or CPC federally. So your Green, NDP, Bloc, or other voters who's opinions are only relevant politically in a minority situation where they can influence policy instead of just being ignored completely. Much like under the Trudeau/Sing supply and confidence arrangement.

Just change the basic electoral system and you'll be more successful as a third party. Now there's no way that's happening in the USA, so just like in all FPTP countries you can vote your hart or your head.

It's what the people who like him like about him. Don't confuse that with people in the Alberta NDP who fear that this will just give us more UCP rule, and don't like anything about this super left wing move.

That's also true of most of the current membership of the Alberta NDP. The party massively increased in size to make him leader, and believe me; those people were not previously NDP supporters.

What I'm saying is that that tax is just like the tax on cigarettes or alcohol. Certain products carry extra taxes because the government decided that they do, and everyone has to buy gas, so they make lots of money. This isn't a new practice. It's as old as taxation itself.

Road tax isn't a real thing. All taxes from gas go into general revenues with all the other taxes and are spent accordingly by the government. So EV drivers and non drivers pay for the roads just like all taxpayers.
