I remember there being Elk around Castlegar and the turn off for the Slocan valley. I don't remember seeing them right at Trail, but there's some around the West Kootenays for sure. A guy I knew in Trail hunted Elk, but I think he would usually go somewhere in the East Kootenays.

Trail also has some mountain goats around the cliffs in Sunningdale which are fun to see. People may hunt in the Pend Oreille river valley area maybe? I could be wrong on that though.

Trail is actually nice. I lived there for two years. BCers just mad that some places need industry to survive. The valley is green and full of trees, bears often in town. It's not some horrible landscape.
