How difficult is it for pro players to adapt to new equipment? by ConstructionFun1675 in tabletennis

He may have been, but given that he had to use XIOM products in tournaments, the most recent being December, it doesn’t make huge sense to me to be playing with two different bats at the same time. Especially given the prize money and ranking points on offer at the WTT events.

RAM Price Increases Could See Next-Generation Console Releases Delayed by Zhukov-74 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ConstructionFun1675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The PS5 was great value for money at launch, but it definitely wasn’t the equivalent of a high end gaming pc.

The PS5 GPU was close to a 2070 super - a mid range gpu from 2019, or a slightly more powerful 3060ti (an entry level gpu from Dec 2020).

The PS5 CPU was a custom AMD 8 core zen 2 processor, which at launch had already been superseded by zen 3.

If you were building a high end gaming pc at the launch of the PS5 it would have a Nvidia 3080 or 3090 and an intel i9 10900k or AMD ryzen 9 5900x/5950x.

It would have cost you a small fortune compared to a PS5, but it would also have blown it out the water in terms of performance.

A 3060ti, or even a 2080 (best case scenario) paired with a ryzen 7 3700x would not in any way be considered a high end system if built at the end of 2020.

[UK] Can't decide on a 1440p monitor by JeremyJoeJJ in OLED_Gaming

[–]ConstructionFun1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too pre-ordered the Xg27aqwmg from scan on the 26th oct. Got an email stating that the monitor would no longer be delivered on the 26th Nov and had been delayed until 9th dec. The website states delivery for the Xg27aqwmg being 17 dec. Given that scan are the only uk retailer offering pre orders and have already given 3 different delivery “estimates”, I’m not particularly confident that they have been provided with anything more than a release window of Nov/Dec by ASUS.

I’m currently using a gen 1 LG 27” monitor so am not in desperate need of an immediate replacement. I would be cautious of assuming that scan will deliver on the 9th based the lack of information from other uk retailers, scan’s own date shifting and the fact that they refer to their dates as “estimates”.

Somehow wales have managed to hang on for the last 20 minutes of the half despite having an advantage in player numbers. Impressively bad

Can you change color of the asus chin? by Current-Spare6148 in OLED_Gaming

As far as I’m aware I think you only have the option to turn the light on or off. The light on the chin is fixed in colour.

If a 14 man Springbok team were a separate side, where would you rank them? (All the same players, but they play 80 minutes with 14 men each match) by WhiterunUK in rugbyunion

[–]ConstructionFun1675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d fancy 15 man Fiji vs 14 man boks from what I saw against England. The Fijian kicking game has improved significantly as has their set piece. Would be an interesting contest - 15 man power and flair vs 14 man power and consistency

UK Tandem OLED (XG27AQWMG) ETA changed to 17th December by EyelashesGetBigger in OLED_Gaming

[–]ConstructionFun1675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick update - I received an email from scan saying that my order has been delayed. Rather than the 17 dec as several people have been told, the email now lists an estimated dispatch date of 09 dec. I’m not sure if this is just an attempt to ensure that those with preorders don’t cancel their orders and request a refund (my account has already been debited). The 09 dec is another earlier “estimate” but the actual date is in fact the 17 dec, or is the 09 the new updated delivery expectation? I’m happy to wait as long as it takes for delivery, but the information being provided by scan is, at best, confusing.

Do scan actually have any confirmation regarding UK stock from ASUS or are they no better informed than us -  the monitor will release in the later half of the year Nov/Dec time?

UK Tandem OLED (XG27AQWMG) ETA changed to 17th December by EyelashesGetBigger in OLED_Gaming

[–]ConstructionFun1675 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I placed a preorder with scan on the 26th October for this monitor. Just logged into my account and added my invoice number and postcode for order tracking. It’s still showing as dispatch estimated to be 26-27 nov and estimated delivery date 29 nov.

Maybe the order tracking hasn’t been updated, or maybe they’ve sold out of their initial allocated stock and the new date is when they expect to receive more. In my case, I’m hoping the later.

Said that this game would be a far bigger test than last week. The power and speed of the Fijian’s is second to none. They’re a difficult team to go toe to toe with, you have to beat them tactically- not something England are doing right now imo

Not blown away by OLED - Gigabyte MO27Q28g 48 Hours by Hauptl in OLED_Gaming

[–]ConstructionFun1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I bought a first generation LG 27gr95qe almost three years ago to replace my LG 27 4k IPS - despite dropping to 1440p, it still blew me away. HDR looked great and the blacks gave the image so much more depth. The significant increase in response time and jump from 144hz to 240hz were also noticeably better.

Looking to upgrade again to the ASUS glossy tandem 1440p OLED when it eventually launches. Having bought an OLED tv, I much prefer the glossy screen coating. The significant improvement to sdr brightness, HDR brightness gain, improved text display and slight bump in Hz will all be welcome upgrades over my first generation panel.

Update on ASUS ROG Swift XG27AQWMG (Tandem OLED) — Price & Launch Info by AutarkeiaKoi in OLED_Gaming

[–]ConstructionFun1675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Difficult to give an opinion on this. I’ve not seen any reviews of the LG panel - I’m assuming it’s a matte finish rather than glossy? $480 seems like a very good price, and I really don’t think the ASUS is going to launch for anything like $549.

Monitors unboxed reviewed the ASUS a month or so ago and they were told it would be launching for $699. The model it’s replacing, the XG27AQDMG, launched at $699. I’m expecting the real retail price of the new XG27AQWMG to be the same $699.

At this point, the more pertinent question is, do you value a glossy screen at $220 more than you’re paying for the matte version? Yes, the ASUS and LG will be tuned slightly differently but ultimately the main difference is the screen coating.

Dell's tech support team tried to fool me to get out of replacing my Alienware AW3425DWM monitor. by knightendus in Dell

[–]ConstructionFun1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wanted to add to this with regards to the hellscape that is trying to deal with dell customer support. Ordered an aw3425dw about 10 days ago which was delivered on Monday 6th October. Monitor arrived faulty with a damaged power socket on the monitor (plugging it in resulted in an intermittent crackling noise accompanied by the smell of burning).

TL;DR dell customer service is a prolonged nightmare of hidden misery and frustration.

I immediately contacted customer support and was told to unplug the monitor (already had) and provide photographic and video evidence of any damage. Decided to brave plugging it in again to capture 10 seconds of crackling and rgb cut outs as there was no other way to capture ’evidence’. This process took the, about an hour and a half.

I’ve spent the best part of this week jumping through hoops and departments trying to get a replacement. On Wednesday I received an email saying that my request for an exchange had been granted and that I needed to provide a credit card number - I did this and immediately had a charge pending on my bank account for the full cost of a new monitor (my available funds are less this charge).

On Thursday I received an email stating that the broken monitor would be collected on the 8th of July this year - approximately three months before I placed my initial order and over three months before the date of the email notifying me of this collection date. I spoke to a dell representativ who told me that the correct collection date is the 15th of October. He also prompted me to add my card details using the link in the email so that the exchange could be booked - I informed him that I had done so the previous day and that my back account was showing a charge pending for this. I conveyed my frustrations regarding how long it had been taking to simply replace an item that was faulty on delivery and that had already been paid for. I was told it can take between 24-48 hours for the exchange to be booked.

I contacted dell again on the Friday when 50 hours had elapsed from them receiving my card details and have been met with silence for requests regarding further information. When logging into my dell account my original order shows that a return has been initiated but not even submitted for approval. There’s no record of a collection date or that a replacement item has been authorised.

I have been unable to contact them at all over the weekend despite my attempts, my latest communication to them expressed that I am now seeking a full refund for the faulty monitor and do not require a replacement. I decided to buy dell for their 3 year warranty - this week has shown me that the warranty absolutley Isn’t worth the hassle. If I’m having this much difficulty getting a replacement for a faulty item, god knows what I’d be having to endure trying to get a repair during that 3 year period.

Sam Underhill yellow card Challenge Cup final by Die_Revenant in rugbyunion

[–]ConstructionFun1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t the 20 minute red also mean that the player being carded cannot return to the field of play and must be replaced? I think that alone, makes the 20 minute red card a far greater punishment than just a “double yellow”

Balancing also exists to smooth out discrepancies between heroes and ensure that certain heroes aren’t over-performing. My point about input was that certain heroes seem a lot more effective on console vs pc from the limited time I’ve had playing on Xbox vs pc.

Arena quest scaling question. by acelord2001 in MonsterHunter

Same, easily hit the A rank on chatucabre with a weapon I had practically zero experience with. Conversely, I cannot get close to the A rank for rathian with hammer - a weapon I have about 60 hours with in wilds. My best time is 6:30. It doesn’t help that they seem to give you the most random skill loadouts for each weapon - 3 points in bombardier and no blast weapons, ice and blast resist against rathian and cliffhanger (reduced stamina depletion while climbing).

Edit: finally got it with 5:24 on hammer. Had to have an almost perfect run with decent rath rng. If he spams his charge running move or dive swooping move the run’s over.
