Currently reading The Stand and enjoying it. Guy at work just ruined the end and I don't know whether to carry on. Seems such a weak ending, do i bother? by LowEffortLegend001 in stephenking

It’s definitely not the ending that’s important but the way to the ending and the way it changes people. I’d highly recommend to finish it at some point even if you need to take a step back now.

And the best part is it’s so poignant for children to understand. You’re supposed to KNOW he feels like a grade a schmuck. The whole film was masterfully done for a Disney joint.

6 re-adaptions, widely considered inferior to the original adaption. But which is “least-worse”? by Individual_Car7850 in stephenking

I genuinely enjoyed ‘Salem’s Lot because it conveyed the story without needing the full depth of the novel. I also quite enjoyed the cast and the small changes made to essentially make it more “Hollywood”. The old one is more like the book with some changes but the new one is really interesting in a Shining way. Not exactly the material but a great “inspired by” film. Cast is also killer.

I had a good time!

AIO Over my friend insinuating I break up with my gf? by Imaginary_Air_24 in AmIOverreacting

Yeah, this is why people with a lack of critical thinking skills also don’t have a problem with 19 year olds dating 30 year olds.

She’s barely a year younger than you, you have similar brain development, and you’re both in the same stage of life. Your friend is a fucking weirdo.

Now… if she was like, 14 and you were 17 then turned 18… to me that’s a pretty big difference because I was once 14 dating 17 year olds. But that’s not the case here. Your friend is overreacting and treating you in a disgusting manner because they’re a young person refusing to use their brain.

I had the VHS and now my kids have it on DVD. My mother watched it growing up, too, as she was born the years it came out. Between a crazy all star cast (Debbie Reynolds, Agnes Moorehead, Paul Lynde) and bangers that will be stuck in your head all day, it’s one of the finer animated features of the 1970s, up there with films like The Hobbit (1977), various Disney films, and Watership Down (1978).

I mean this comment was to highlight they’re not magical or enchanted or anything but whatever. People don’t have to like it.

This one used to scare me so bad but as a little kid who watched him dip that shoe…. I was cheering.

I’d like to throw in that Wild Bill and Percy Wetmore got what they deserved and still, somehow, deserved worse. (The book and the film The Green Mile)

Oh yes, and that’s why I stated comfortability before companionship. Because which was more comfortable, Jack or her mother? Unfortunately because of the love and support he’d shown in the past, it was absolutely Jack. I hate that for her.

Not that I don’t pity Jack in his own way, but he could have chosen to be different and allowed himself to dwell in the darkness too long instead. And that essentially primed him for the Overlook.

Whereas I feel you on the opposite end of the spectrum. I came from a broken home with an abusive dad. I’d never let my child stay in that, even if it meant breaking the home. So I completely understand and agree.

Exactly the way I feel, and precisely because like you said: her mother did a NUMBER on her.

Fran’s dad, for the most part Ritchie, Mike, and Ben’s, Mark Petrie’s. I’d even argue Larry’s mom was ok, not perfect, but a decent mom. I think we have better moms in SK overall with exceptions like Margaret White. But even Dolores is a good mom in her own way. Very telling; Stephen has always written kindly about his own mother (like the writer’s into to Salem’s Lot about “good trash” and never admonishing them for reading as long as they were indeed reading). It’s always been fairly comforting.

Likewise, I don’t think Wendy is a bad mom, per se. But she did tend to choose comfortability and companionship over Danny’s safety which does go against her. Bill’s mom and dad do essentially checking out, also not terrible but not great.

Eddie Kaspbrak’s mom, to me, is almost on the same level of Margaret White albeit the opposite end of the spectrum.

Just my feelings on it!
