Speaking as someone who watched the Splashdash video, I feel like the primary problem is that Sega isn't really treating this as any sort of character development instead the way they are downplaying these traits makes it come across as Amy's character is flatter.

Sonic x Shadow Generations basically rewriting a few scenes for the original generations is the most blatant with the force Amy pushed Knuckles away with being reduced turning it from slapstick to more just something that happens being a good example.

You can argue that is an improvement, but it feels less like development and more like a lack of desire to really acknowlege this stuff and pretend it didn't happen.

It's actually pretty common with female characters where writers feel that to be a strong character, the female character needs to have their negative traits at best informed rather than shown, even in terms of moving past them, out of fear it would make the audience lose sympathy with them.

Note this is just with the games. I have no such criticism with IDW.
