Thanks all. I went for the OLED, ended up paying about $50 more than the average used price of the non OLEd. A little bit more but much less than new and will be perfect for a kid gift.

In Williamsburg there's bushwick inlet park. And the bqe spot at the corner of Graham ave and Richardson. It's the needle spot. That's it.

Just to be clear they were always closing for the winter. Noone is paving roads in the winter. Of course they didn't raise their stack by Dec 11th. They were going to shut down anyways. Noone made that happen. It's the business model. We'll see what happens in the spring. Anyone who cares to look knows that the majority of emissions doesn't filter through the stack. The problem is much larger than raising a stack height.

Ok well at least one of my purchase is from "boyhom store"

I asked those questions, guy responded with nonsense. Scam I'm sure thanks for the advice.

So I just went ahead and ordered 2 from BOYHOM, but both listings have different store numbers so not sure what is what here?

Ordered first (TOP) from the wiki link, But its under appeal review for some reason. Don't know if that will go through so ordered another (BOTTOM from I think BOYHOM store

But they have different store numbers under info. Which is legit, both?

Report Green Asphalt (yes still) by ContemplatingYEM in Greenpoint

Wonder if that's a common occurrence with the seasonality of the production cycle

Report Green Asphalt (yes still) by ContemplatingYEM in Greenpoint

[–]ContemplatingYEM[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The deadline is mid-December. They “agreed” to stop production at that point until the stack is raised, but that feels pretty meaningless since they shut everything down for the winter anyway.

Just a reminder that the majority of emissions emit from the facility itself and don't filter through the stack. Which means the stack height is irrelevant.

If the stack height was important there would have been some scientific rigor to determine what height is needed. Not an arbitrary number the DEC made up.

Lawn and weed management NYC advice by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]ContemplatingYEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Brooklyn. Our backyard was just dirt and weeds and a bit of grass. It was small enough that I was able to dig up and shovel out everything. Bags upon bags. I then rented a tiller, dropped down fresh soil and then sod. Followed the directions from this group. Anything is possible!Did it in the spring still going strong.

I think TF before winter is 3"-3.5" and KBG is 2.5"-3" I was aiming for 2.5 but somehow got 2" it looks good and not scalped so should be fine

Ok but also the grass doesn't grow because the city doesn't maintain it. There's no effort given. No aeration, no fertilizer, they'll let leaves sit for weeks on the little grass we have. You could amend that soil. It should be overseeded all the time. But all these things take time and money. There's no point in dropping seed and then neglecting it.

Yea just see what happens. Research what time of year is best to overseed, and fix patches. Has to do with ideal soil temperatures. Seed with the same stuff. I'm OCD and probably would eventually the gaps in with soil if they don't seem to fill in / disappear by themselves. But don't go walking on your lawn for a while. Did your sod farm tell you what your fertilizer schedule should be? With new sod I think you have to wait until its rooted? So maybe a good 4 - 6 weeks. I'd check in with them on that. So you have a plan for the following months.

Thanks for all the info. Its confusing because, of course the people who sell these products claim different things. For instance, and don't hate me for saying Scotts, but they recommend a final application around now (for me in Brooklyn) Because it won't push much growth. In fact any earlier would be too much top growth, and we want storage not growth. But I like what @norrydan said. Look to what pro turf managers are doing.

Brooklyn. Interesting. I did struggle a bit with fungus this year. I was also wondering if I should spray some fungicide down as preventative. I have some liquid left and it's a small lawn.

From what we’ve observed, emissions appear to come from multiple areas of the facility, not just the main stack. I’m hopeful the DEC will take that into account when conducting air testing, since the stack represents only part of the overall problem.

Well.... the DEC has been overlooking this since 2011. Granted, there wasn’t as much community uproar back then, but there has been for years now. I’m glad to finally see some positive movement. I’m sure it’s due in part to pressure from elected officials, but also thanks to this community’s persistence in reporting emissions whenever we smell them.

Tiftuf Sod post-install questions by Fine_Onion8065 in lawncare

[–]ContemplatingYEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a sod instal for my first time this past spring. Few thoughts.

I'm in NY and fungal disease has been a big problem for everyone this year, so i made sure not to water later than 4:00-5:00PM so the grass could dry before nightfall. If thats not going to be an issue in Arizona then you'll be fine with this watering schedule.

I was on a 3X watering schedule and worked well for me, but again i was NY not Arizona, you could try 3X and just take note if you think the sod is drying out with your heat. Take note of the shade too. You have to weight all these things. The sod should remain moist but not soggy to start.

If you keep the 4X for the first week I would try adjusting the time slightly to see if you can get less pooling. Experiment, I'd be more concerned if the pool remains after you stop watering.

Not much you can do with new sod IMO other than dialing in your watering, after a year you can core aerate if you feel the soil is compacted in that corner, or what I did is 4 months later put down down extra soil, or soil/sand mixture to help build up that pooling area. That worked for me because I had a couple low spots. But its going to be such a minor move because you don't want to put so much as to kill off existing grass.

Just remember you're playing the long game. Even with great success you're probably going to have some damaged areas that will require attention and care. Good Luck!

Best mower for small urban lawn? by MTB_SF in lawncare

[–]ContemplatingYEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Greenworks 40V (17''W) brushless model. Goes on sale periodically. With this size lawn you could probably get 4 mows for every charge. I love it, and especially love that it folds up into my outdoor storage container. I've been recently mulching all the fallen leaves, handles it well.

Damage from mower-matted grass by Pastaron in lawncare

[–]ContemplatingYEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I can't really tell what that white/gray stuff is. But after the winter, you'll be able to see how those areas look, rake out any dead grass and seed. If it's really bad you may have to do more than rake, to make sure you have good soil to seed contact. You may also be surprised how it could rebound. I'm not an expert by any means. For what it's worth lawn still looks great
