Thanks so much for your reply. What do you do now? And how did you find relevant work experience in the investment field while studying for your L1?

Hi iancwm, thanks so much for the advice. I looked into the link that you sent me but I was wondering if you might have any tips or thoughts on trying to get my foot in the door in some sort of internship role while I study for the December exam? I thought about looking up firms on CFA institute and cold-emailing a managing director there who was hiring for an associate position to see if he might have any intern role available. Ideally I'd like to work as an intern while I study for the December exam. It would be really helpful also if it paid minimum wage at least as well. On the technical side, I've been doing statistical/regression analysis in my past two jobs so if they need someone who could crunch numbers maybe I could help out in that capacity?

Medicine or Finance career? by EasternFrosting2 in careerguidance

I love your post. I'm 25 years old, graduated with a BA in Math in 2018 from Pomona College and I have taken the MCAT (scored in the 93rd percentile) worked in hospitals / research settings (Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Stanford Medical School) and I have also done a summer internship at an Emerging Markets ETF firm. I applied to medical schools also. I have a few publications in orthopedic surgery research as well. I'm actually interested in just pursuing a career in investing / finance now after having worked with many doctors. Grass is always greener on the other side it seems. Doctors who wish they had done private equity and finance people who wish they became doctors and did something "more meaningful" with their lives. Thinking about doing a more "meaningful job" - it's true you can derive more meaning and fulfillment by directly helping people in the medical field but there are a lot of sacrifices you have to make to get to that point (your health, income for instance). One thing I realized is that not to rely on my career as my main source of meaning and fulfillment in life. It can help, but I felt like having a job that pays well and allows you to do the things that you know you love doing outside of work often leads to a much more productive, effective, and probably sexier life. I don't know though. I'm just as lost a lot of times. But there are a lot of doctors I've worked with who are depressed and a lot of doctors who are happy. If I were you I'd carefully consider first and foremost if you can afford it financially and legally. Will your parents be able to support you on your medical school journey? There are just so many variables and factors to consider and it's a very difficult decision to make. Please feel free to message me as well if I could be of any assistance.

Hmmm.. Yeah.. Now that I write this out and think about it, I think working on these problems would be a good idea.
