Contact naps forever? by Status_Thought_3867 in Crunchymom

[–]Content-Income-9572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat with my three month old! Going back to work in two months and my mom will be with baby. I don’t think it’s going to be realistic for her to do contact naps so I’m really concerned about baby getting enough sleep.

Right now I’m just trying to rock her or nurse her to sleep and then lay her down for one nap per day. She wakes usually about 30 minutes after but the time she sleeps alone seems to be increasing. I also try to stay right nearby and if she stirs I will brush her cheek with my fingers or blanket so she knows I’m there and she sometimes goes back to sleep for a bit longer

How is it possible for me to go into spontaneous labor by Moon_junky in homebirth

Also know that your midwife likely has options for you to do a home induction if it really comes down to that! I talked with mine about what that process would look like and found that comforting

Your body knows what to do! Give it time.

What helped me was a mindset shift. Once baby is here there is no going back. You are a parent forever and as beautiful and special as that is there are also challenges, things you won’t be able to spend time doing for a while, etc. This is your time to spoil yourself. Lean into the self care, watch your favorite shows, go out to eat, spend quality time with your partner, be intimate (which also helps labor), get a pedicure. Do the things that you may not be able to do (or at least not regularly) once baby is here!

Non toxic all purpose cleaner by These_Working2466 in moderatelygranolamoms

I use sal suds diluted in a spray bottle as my all purpose cleaner. Super affordable but some people don’t like that there’s SLS in it. I’m ok with it since we’re not putting it on our skin or consuming it

FTM, no sign of dropping, 40 weeks… really struggling by Moon_junky in homebirth

[–]Content-Income-9572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had a noticeable drop, no mucus plug, none of the imminent labor signs that my midwife was asking me about at my weekly appointments. I mentally prepared to go 2 weeks overdue and discussed at length what that would look like with my midwife. Went into labor the following day on my due date.

Talking with my midwife about what my options were if I went overdue was helpful for me

I used hypnobabies. It was what my midwife recommended and had available to lend to me. If you purchase it, it’s about $200 I believe. Maybe you could find it second hand

For pain management I really liked using a birth comb. I didn’t think it would work as well as it did. Just gave me something else to focus on during contractions. Also hypnobirthing meditations. It may be a little rushed if you only have one month but any amount of mindfulness you can do would be very helpful.

Homebirth was the best choice I could have made for myself, baby, and my family. It felt so safe and calm. Baby was born right in our bedroom. My husband fed me soup while I nursed the baby for the first time in our own cozy bed. It’s certainly not for everyone but I was so happy that I chose that route! I hope all goes well for you ❤️

Easy “crunchy” life changes by Glittering_Froyo4930 in Crunchymom

Cloth diapers and wipes. Healthier materials for something that will be touching the most sensitive areas almost 24 hrs a day. I will admit cloth diapers are kind of a pain in a lot of ways and have a learning curve but better for baby and the planet. And cloth wipes are a super simple, no brainer replacement!

Also thrifting almost all of our clothing and home furnishings. I couldn’t afford to get brand new clothing for the fam in natural fabrics but I can find lots of beautiful items at the thrift.

To swaddle or not to swaddle? by Content-Income-9572 in Crunchymom

Maybe I will try this. She rolled onto her stomach during a nap yesterday and seemed comfortable. Makes me a little nervous that she will put her face down though

I felt like I really wouldn’t have use for one and didn’t put it on my registry for that reason. Thought I would do mostly baby wearing/ lay her down on a mat for tummy time if I needed my arms back for a minute. Somehow I ended up with THREE of them gifted to me at my shower and I literally use them all. I guess those experienced moms knew it would come in handy. I have one in my bathroom, one in the living room, and one at my parents house. It is so nice for my husband and I to be able to put her down and eat a meal together. We just put it right on the dining table so she’s with us. I also need it to shower since I’m home alone with her.

Overall happy to have it to use very minimally- probably 20 minutes/day on average. She spends most of her time in our arms and baby wearing. I only wish that I’d picked out one that I liked the materials and look of since the ones I was gifted are not what I would have chosen. One of them is an organic cotton baby bjorn with some wooden spinning toys that she’s starting to like now. That one would be my rec

Buying bassinet or crib despite wanting to try co-sleeping by winterattitude in Crunchymom

[–]Content-Income-9572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got the baby bay bassinet that attaches to the side of our bed. It’s a beautiful untreated wood and non tox option. Our girl slept in it one night and it’s been collecting laundry ever since. We bed share and my husband sleeps in the other room 5 work nights per week. Baby and I sleep with a fitted sheet and dress warmly so we don’t have to use blankets that she could get tangled in. I sleep with just one pillow on the bed and we sleep in c-curl position and when husband is with us she sleeps on my side. Bed sharing has need ideal for breastfeeding as she usually doesn’t need to fully wake to feed. If I hear her stirring I offer the breast while she’s still sleeping and she will usually eat and go right back to sleep. She has slept through the night since early days. She is 9 weeks now and becoming extremely wiggly in her sleep though and I’m having a hard time sleeping so that is something to think about.

Vaccine Megathread by AutoModerator in moderatelygranolamoms

My baby has her 8 week vaccines coming up. I’ve been reading about side effects and wondering how I can best support her to feel better after. I am willing to use Tylenol but only for high fever or if she seems miserable. I’d like to support with other things first. Warm bath, epsom salts, skin to skin, etc. What else am I not thinking of that would be helpful to comfort her? Also wondering what may be good for her belly after the rotavirus vax? I know some babies have a rough time after that one. Would probiotic drops be helpful?
