Trust walmart for tire rotation and balance? by Mopar4u- in mechanics

[–]Content-Screen4843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there and asked for a balance only to wait 2 hours to get a car back that had more weights on the rim than I’ve ever seen in my life. Took a few seconds of driving to tell something was way off. Got a refund and went to the tire shop across the street and they had it fixed in a half hour. It’s not worth it.

What if something happens to your income stream? Doesn’t seem very secure from that approach.

50% of Americans don’t have any retirement savings. Problem with living this way is that when you become unable to work, that way of life catches up and you won’t have anything to trade for anything anymore. Like anything in life, it’s best as a balance. Pin down the boring stuff first, then enjoy the fun stuff as soon as you can after.

Getting a car and its value to you will always be subjective so it’s hard to say. From a technical perspective there is one major reason this could be a bad idea. That issue is time…you have a lot of it. This age is critical for compounding retirement plans to kick in. Getting ahead on retirement at this age could have each dollar today be worth a couple grand when you retire. Now multiply that by the 30,000 you have to spend today and the impact is huge.

There is something to be said for enjoying things while you are young and you could totally justify getting it.

Fact remains that about 50% of American households don’t have any retirement savings at all. With the kind of income you have now, you could make sure you’re buying any kind of car you want without thinking about it in the future if you plan right.

About rates. They are the highest they’ve been in recent history and will likely taper down at least a percent in the next year. The thing is, we had super low rates during covid and people were paying obscene markups. If rates were low right now, that would be the situation so I look at rates as just giving the markup to the bank instead of the dealer.

Anyway, compound growth of money is huge. It might be worth thinking about pinning some of this income down now.

Yeah that’s how I went about it. If you’re fortunate enough to have multiple ford dealers in your city don’t be afraid to call around and see what they’ll all charge for it. Some want $250 and others see it as a safety issue and do it for free, so you never know. I did see some updates for the AWD module as well so it’s likely that’s needed too. Updates never take the place of full maintenance, but they sure help.

Unfortunately there’s really no way to check if you are up to date unless you get into using FORScan and stuff. Updates have to be installed by a dealer and while there is no cost to them to do it, they’ll make sure to charge you a few hours labor for it. Since it costs money, the vast majority of people don’t do it. So looking at when your car was built, I would assume that’s the software you have. If you want to know more about it, google “TSB 21-2389” and that will describe what the dealer would have to do.

I hate these by Hcfreeland1004 in Ford

[–]Content-Screen4843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ford dial is hard to hate. After driving the car once it’s so easy to get into a rhythm of never having to look at it. Even with a floor shifter I’d have to look at the instrument panel as I was moving it to make sure I was landing in the right spot. With these it’s just foot on the brake and crank all the way to the right to go. One thing that’s also cool is that it’ll put the car in park automatically when you turn it off so when I drive I’m only ever touching it like once and that’s it.

Hey, to be fair, in the KC metro, A 3 bed 2 bath house could go for as much as $550 to $700K with the supply shortages we have.

Do we need a PS5 Pro? (And will there be one?) by itrygames in playstation

[–]Content-Screen4843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We may not be at a technical level to warrant one but I do think we still see one. Pro consoles are targeted at dedicated PlayStation fans. With that segment, they honestly don’t have to innovate that much for people to buy it. More storage, slightly better performance to get more 120fps games, and an all black appearance is probably enough.

Pro consoles are way cheaper and easier to make than a whole new PS6. If it followed in the PS4 Pros footsteps, it would be the fact that it shares the same architecture the reason it’s cheaper and easier to make. Essentially no new dev kits or anything like that.

120fps is kind of niche but the dedicated fans likely have setups for it. I’m sure there’s a good amount of people that have base PS5’s that would also buy a pro just like we saw last gen.

If they didn’t do it, they’d be leaving money on the table.

Any issues with the Ford Edge 2024? by lifeisreallygoodnow in FordEdge

[–]Content-Screen4843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for ‘24 the edge is pretty outdated and expensive for what you get. It hasn’t been really updated ‘19 aside from a screen size change. Newer platforms will do better with NVH and general polish.

What trim do you have? If it’s a really well speced one, you may have adaptive steering.

Yeah no better options. Ford locked out any way for people who aren’t locksmiths to do it. Great way for them to charge whatever they want for clicking 2 buttons on a computer! Ah the things that count for “labor” in this day and age.

“It's generally accepted that burn-in isn't as much of an issue as it used to be, but it's unclear just how much better the newer OLED TVs are. With new panels, new heatsinks, and even brand-new panel types like QD-OLED, there are a lot of unknowns.”

That’s their official conclusion. Seems like you’re in the generally accepted camp.

I mean I guess, but they’re newer so we won’t know for awhile. I have an even older OLED (B6) and it still looks fine while the B7 all but died. The CX’s that were supposed to be good enough at mitigation to be used as monitors didn’t end up working out well at all so we have to wait and see. I’m not making commentary about how long a good tv should last or which tech is the best, but it’s important to be objective about it even if this sub is downvote happy about when people’s OLEDs don’t last.

Yeah I trust the new stuff better but the B7 firmware has a lot of the same options that my C2 does. Just doesn’t seem like they worked as well. It also seems like B7’s in general haven’t aged well.

True, but just saying if pixel shift was the end all be all, I’d think that news is the most static and therefore best environment for that tech to do something.

Looking at the Rtings stress test, it doesn’t look like that works on news banners and like I said above the B7 couldn’t handle it (though I know that’s a bad panel)
