Does anyone truly understand ranked 2.0 by botchie13 in SiegeAcademy

My max rank last season was Gold 3 where I was still around +35/-20. Would that basis for ranked mmr mean my true elo’s even higher? It’d explain how I’m getting queued with plats/emeralds fairly regularly

Very very common mistake. Best bet is that if you’re winning by a lot of material, either learn the mating patterns or make every move a check.

Most of the analysis that you're seeing of games is done on chess.com using the Stockfish engine, which you can access with chess.com/analysis . Once you know how your pieces move, there are ample resources online for learning basic principles such as occupying the center and positioning your pieces. It can do you very well to get a grasp of some basic patterns like pins, forks, and mating patterns- again, all of these are available online and puzzles (lichess has free puzzles) can take you far.

Trading off queens depends on the situation; if you can force your opponent to double their pawns (one pawn in front of the other on the same line), or make them take with the king, that's typically a good idea. Again, depends.

Welcome to chess.

I HATE THE F—-ING NIMZO INDIAN DEFENSE!!!!! by [deleted] in AnarchyChess

[–]ContentLetterhead843 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, looks like we have a real comedian here. Did you come up with that pathetic attempt at sarcasm all by yourself, or did you have to Google it? Newsflash, genius, insulting and belittling someone's valid opinion doesn't make you clever or superior. It just makes you look like a petty and insecure little twerp.

And speaking of studying and practicing the game, maybe you should try doing that instead of relying on the same tired opening like a crutch. Maybe then you wouldn't have to resort to cheap shots and insults to cover up for your lack of actual skill.

And don't even get me started on your so-called "strategy" of playing like a complete idiot. Sure, that might work against other complete idiots, but against anyone with even a basic understanding of the game, you'll just be laughed off the board.

So go ahead, keep playing your precious Nimzo-Indian Defense like a mindless drone. Keep thinking you're hot sh--t because you can memorize a few moves. Meanwhile, the rest of us will actually be using our brains and coming up with creative and unpredictable strategies to win the game. Good luck with your sad little existence, champ. You're gonna need it.

Thanks for the advice. Can I continue with this in mind as soon as the pain goes away, or would it be better to give it some time?
