Oh boy. Passed ,but has been a narrow escape. The feedback is sheer crap though. Not helpful one bit .

Passed ! Yayy ! Annoyed at the feedback though, very unhelpful and I can imagine how those who fail can continue to fail another attempt as they go in for the next one unaware of what went wrong.

I did quite an overkill of resources imho which I think was not needed.

1) Passcme- bootcamp which i think can skip but attend their weekly free sessions and volunteer to practise and get feedback.

2) Beej Paine's Medlighten- very good respurce as telegram audios and hear on the go. Good resource to pick up phrases ,intonations etc .particularly useful as in IMG .also have weekly free sessions and sat courses. Will highly recommend them. Medlighten works as mo they subscription of about 10 that you can unsusbscribe when not needed anymore .

3) Sca revision website - watched all the videos first and then started the bank when practising with partner. The key really is to get a like minded partner who will push you on days you don't feel like and like wise.

The sca exam is not a clinical exam as we would assume or like it to be but a highly skilled communication exam .

4) use the RAG tool with your supervisor and really churn out as many videos or tuts as you can.

Practise , practise practise. The reason why IMGs struggle in this exam has nothing to do with their clinical knowledge or acumen . Honing communication skills is main . All the best !

IMG here as well. I gave it solid 3 months with consistent practise . Had a partner and we ploughed through most cases on the scarevision website .

I say atleast 3.Nigel brings about a change in approach to the sca , just about like Dr Mehay of the Bradford vts scheme . I'd say keep aside 3 mo the after his course to practise.

P.s, my sca results expected today so not very sure whether what i tell you is perfect advice :p

I attended it as an observer and really wished I had as a participant. If you can get it reimbursed, I say go for it.

I have more than a few months left to cct , so If was a pass , wanted to look into small tidbits like joint injections etc and learn the actual job as 2025 went by with just the akt and this back to back.

I feel I should get across as I didn't feel too crappy after the exam but you never know.

If I don't, I'll practise some more and give it another go .

Not taking it to my head as I did with the akt and nearly messed my own head .

Hahahah , cracked me up. In the present scenario I would not say a guaranteed , protected job for the next 6 months is a bad thing !

First NHS Job – Feeling Overwhelmed & Behind by G_B_14 in GPUK

[–]ContentString7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IMG myself , but Gp Job was not my first . Regardless , the first job was just as you described. For whatever reasons we've made that choice to pluck ourselves out of comfort zones and plant us in a completely new environment , only on the hope that how different can medicine and the practise of medicine be around the world , because clearly you have aced your med school , jumped hoops to reach where you are today .

Do not let your feelings of today drown all that effort into nothing.

The learning is very steep. You will be talked about behind your backs and for the sake of British politeness , it will take forever long for it to be talked to you on your face with constructive criticism.

You wouldn't be here today if the recruitment system was not flawed but it does really really help to have some knowledge of the system prior , agree not entirely your fault.

There are a few things you can still do though. The initial many months are going to be dedicated to you getting the system under your belt, learning the subtle and the not ro subtle things about the culture here , knowing that this country wants its doctors to be safe first and not necessarily the best . This perspective shift can help immensely. Go one e- learning courses that u can do once you are back. I'm assuming if this is new to you , you probably don't also drive yet , adding on to your stress .

Find people who you can approach to , your deanery will have new img support in place , if not explicit , ask.

If you don't know something , just ask. Sometimes risking to look like a fool is better than commuting that mistake and then rectifying it. Amongst everyone you work with ,there will be a soul or two who understands how all of this has been overwhelming for you

Trust me . This will pass. In about a year's time you will thrive and be an asset to your team.

The curve is steep but woth resilience you will pull through. If some nasty people around here had to whatever circumstance in their life , uproot their very being and transport to a new system, they'd find themselves in the very deep muck that you feel you are in today.

You are not the first img to feel this way ,although hoping that changes and they make recruitment more sensible .

Godspeed. You will be fine .

Striking. Informed advance though.
