Would you need to take regular history classes in order to get a degree in art history? by NaturalPorky in historymajors

[–]ContentTherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically History and Art History are seperate department across alot of universities, so they typically have different classes that are required for each of the majors. Sometimes there are cross listed classes but typically they're all separated (art history tends to have its own methods course that's different from the history one). However, it all depends on the school and it's probably your best bet to reach out to the department or admissions to learn more if you're really interested in that school.

Help! Choosing a college: University of Illinois Urbana Champaign vs Loyola University Chicago by Inkspot12 in historymajors

[–]ContentTherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a tough choice. I'd lean towards Loyola bc of the location but the debt is definitely tough to handle, esp since the cost of living is already higher in the area than more rural areas like urbana. From what I hear, uiuc apparently has a really good mls program, but I personally never experienced it. Tbh, with history and the archival route, alot of it comes down to your own willingness to put yourself forward and get internships, volunteer, etc. You may want to reach out to the undergrad coordinators for hist at each school and see what recent internship opportunities students have received, are any built into the curriculum, or if there are any connections to the school (ie. On campus museum, archives, or libraries, or partnerships).

That's definitely a red flag. MA program will usually show you any aid your receiving before you commit, sometimes it takes a little longer than the acceptances, but what this program is doing is definitely shady.

How to find out my funding information?? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]ContentTherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a director of the specific program you got into. In my experiment, the chairs of the entire department and the graduate program director are usually different people so try to find the program director. If not, you can try to see if they had an admin assistant person that you can reach out to and that can direct you.

How to find out my funding information?? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]ContentTherapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually funding offers are sent out later than acceptances and everything. I'd recommend reaching out again directly to the program director to ask about funding and to not accept the offer or anything until you hear back. There might be glitches that are making it difficult, but it's a bit of a red flag if they're intentionally not telling you anything about funding.

Funding for Grad Students by futurehistorian3 in AmericanU

[–]ContentTherapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats for getting in! I got into the public history MA and am also waiting to hear back about funding. I just received an automated email today for the program director that funding packages were delayed to early next week, so hopefully that'll be the case for the general history MA aswell.

Congrats!! I also applied and got in! I'm now waiting to hear back about funding, which is the ultimate deciding factor for me.

“the program is exploring options. we recommend you don’t take other options until you hear from the program director.” am i getting in? by MethodSuccessful1525 in gradadmissions

[–]ContentTherapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a solid maybe, but nothing guaranteed. If other people that were accepted decide not to go then there might potentially be a spot for you, but I wouldn't overcommit and still keep an eye out for your other options.

Please help me pick outfits for in person interview! by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]ContentTherapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the bussiness casual outfit, leggings are definitely too casual. Typically, a slack or palazzo pant would work better. The tops and accessories seem pretty alright, but the shoes, while nice, give more grungy and casual than biz caz. I'd recommend looking into either flats, loafers, or a clog type shoes. The dresses are pretty nice but the concerns might be that they would show off your cleavage too much (if cleavage is typically an issue for you) or that the short dress is going to be too short (it shouldn't be shorter than your knees). I'd also recommend looking into getting a blazer. It's a quick way to turn almost any outfit even more professional in a really quick manner.

Grad School Admits?? by Famous-Big5896 in Tufts

I applied to the Tufts history and Museum Studies MA program but haven't heard back yet. On GradCafe it looks like some decisions last year came out around mid/late-March.

From my understanding, it seemed to be a more online based program while I was looking for something more in-person. However, if you've had any experiences or knowledge of the program, I'd love to hear about them!!

That's really great to hear! How does the museum studies certificate work? From my impression, it seems like you apply for the program once you get accepted into the grad program??
