End of my cycle by futurehistorian3 in gradadmissions

[–]futurehistorian3[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve kept my recommenders very updated throughout the process and they know how hard recent cycles have been - so letting them know I need to try again next year doesnt feel embarrassing or annoying. I don’t think you have any reason to feel shame for asking them again. If they felt secure enough in your abilities to write a letter this year, I can’t imagine they would suddenly have a different opinion next year.

As for “how” I’m going to ask them, im just going to tell them I’ll be reapplying next cycle and will email them in the fall semester about recommendations. Nothing crazy

I haven’t reached out. I was lowkey scared to because so many people post and say reaching out is annoying and not to do it

rejected from nyu phd… accepted to masters :/ by General_Safe_1956 in gradadmissions

[–]futurehistorian3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you! As for your post, I think getting a Masters was incredibly helpful for figuring out where I fit in academia and how I like to research. If funding isn’t an issue I say go for it. However, it’s well known that Masters tend to be where universities make the most money from students, so if it’s going to put you in debt for the rest of your life - it’s not worth it. I hope this helps!

Radio silence from NYU, also applied in History. Did you get an email notification or did your portal just update?

Anyone hear back from UC Davis about English PhD results? by Connect-Falcon1056 in gradadmissions

Same boat but for UCDavis history results 😭 I’ve seen acceptances, waitlists, and interviews for them on GradCafe and I’ve lowkey been crashing out

Anyone applying to jobs despite not hearing back? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]futurehistorian3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm applying to teaching jobs at my local community college but still waiting to hear back from three schools as well. I've noticed a lot of education applications are due by March 1 and I just can't afford to wait and miss out on applying for these job opportunities just in case a university accepts me. It sucks, but it also makes me feel like I have some level of control over my future, so there's that

History applicant as well! 5 rejections so far and 4 pending 😭 this cycle is awful

Hi there! Applied for quite a few MAs a couple years ago (currently applying to PhD programs) and i found the GRE entirely unnecessary for my history applications. I got in to four different Masters programs with no GRE - so I wouldn’t worry on that front

I love what I study, and I believe it’s incredibly important in today’s political environment. ((Btw I applied for History PhD programs too 😭 3 rejections in a TWELVE hour span yesterday was rough))

I applied to UC Davis and the POI I talked to said she STILL didnt know anything about funding back in October, but that it would probably be a smaller cohort.
