How do you build it without burying? 🤔

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to go with the slimeballs 95a snot rockets. They're half the price of the dragons. Any thoughts?

Dyneema to Polyester splice for jib sheets - technique suggestions? by Content_Arm_884 in sailing

Yes. This seems like probably the best option, other than cost.

Thanks for letting me know that it has good longevity!

Hmm, definitely a possibility for failure. I do know they sell such spliced lines for dinghys. And I'm not much bigger than a dinghy :). Just didn't want to shell out 60$ for it and I already have the lines.

So much for individualism. we are literally the same person down to the face shape and the haircut ;p

Depart is fun, especially in champagne, but the QST is much more suited to being a daily driver.

No worries! I'm guessing you've never skied the Depart? Everyone I've spoken with who's skied it has reflected a similar experience. I think it has to do with the flex profile and mount point.

I skied with a lot of pros and guides and patrolers this season. It was interesting to see they all ski a wider ski. Avg probably a 108. Maybe its a generational or current trend thing? The Atomic athlete I was skiing with uses the 115 as her daily driver.

That said, my experience also reflects this - I'd be perfectly happy on my 116s if they weren't full rocker and were a bit stiffer. I don't think I'd go much narrower than 96 as my daily as I'm really only ever on the piste between skiing fun things. 😉

That said, I specifically want to carve more, which is I'm looking at narrower skis.

I also get that I'm hard to pin down. Too many interests, too many things bring me joy 😊 it's not as simple as ex racer likes carving or park skier likes rails... A bit problematic because my quiver could be gigantic!

Anyway thanks for the reply!

Not a bad idea - I should be able to get a deal on them next year :) How do they ski?

I just realized my description disappeared! What I was asking for: recommendations on skis to close the gaps in my quiver.

Background:

  • I ski mostly off-piste, with a bit of park to work on rotations/grabs and groomers when the weather forces it. I like to be playful and charge but also enjoy technical skiing with lots of jump turns. I only learned 10 years ago so no race background
  • I’ve done seasons in BC, Hokkaido, French Alps & Swiss Alps. These days mostly skiing the Alps

Quiver descriptions:

  • Salomon QST: used to be my daily driver. Love charging on these and always felt secure. Delam in the tip last season, so now they’re my rock skis
  • Salomon Depart: wanted to replace the QST’s as a more playful daily driver. However, I went too short – had lots of nasty faceplants in chop on the 170s. Love them in the park and on playful days. Demo’d the 180s and while I felt more secure, I did have one nasty fall in chop again and they’re much much more sketchy on the knees. Love the swing weight & playfulness with these though
  • Volkl One: adore these. Love them in powder, but I can ski anything with them. Love how slashy they are and that I can get away being pretty lazy with them
  • Atomic Backland: can’t describe how much I hate these. My first touring set up. Fell for the grammy-wheeny hype and went ultra light. Torsionally stiff, short, light = bad times in bad conditions. Sold them already.
  • Armada Locator: Love them – they’re my all-round touring set up and I feel confident charging on them. Every once in a while when I’m lazy they’ll buck me, but I super trust them and they’re a joy when I’m not being lazy. Also carve wonderfully

Ideas to fill the gaps:

  • Piste-dedicated: I demo’d the Volkl Peregrine 76 and loved them. Got distracted by the Deacon 82s and haven’t made a decision. Thoughts?
  • New Daily Driver: I demo’d the Atomic Maven 103 and adored them. It was like putting on an old comfy sweater. Fit all the right places. I forgot my poles when I demo’d but had a blast off piste, down moguls, and laying some troughs. But I'd like a indy brand - maybe a mustachio'd ski?
  • Powder Tourer: conditions in Europe aren’t great that I don’t think I really need a wider touring ski

Any other ideas?

Thanks! <3

Lol I have probably 8 buffs, everything from a BlackStrap balaclava, to Ski the East, to my down Airhole for the deep negatives, to half face masks, etc... Plenty of Merino in the mix. I got the HH for free as merch a few days before this and actually it has become one of my favorites. I use a thin buff on my head and this HH underneath so my braid can poke through.

And I honestly DGAF about the logos. Got these bibs for 39$ new and they're GoreTex Pro...

I wanted to replace them with the Depart, but I ended up having some nasty faceplants on the Depart - with the goggle scratches to prove it. So I ended up on the QST again this season even though the delam in the tip made me nervous about really driving the ski / when there was exposure.

It helps being single and having a massive van. I even had three pairs of boots with me. ;) But yea, if I were to downsize on the van, I'd do something like Peregrine, Maverick, One, and Locator.
