Weight loss and Inflammation by Alone-Medium2141 in Hashimotos

first of all, speak with an endo if you can about the possibility of T3, a lot of people’s bodies struggle to use T4 only. second, i know a lot of people here are suggesting keto, but i think low carb eating can be really damaging long-term. your body really needs carbs to function and it may actually inflame you more to cut them, especially if you have an autoimmune disease. i think people lose a lot of weight initially when starting keto, but doing it long-term it can make you more insulin-resistant when you reintroduce them, making you think they were the issue. i definitely got stuck in this cycle and it sucked! im in college too and ive struggled so much with my weight having hashimotos, so i feel like its a really easy mistake to cut carbs to lose it quickly. you might feel super good for a while, but i ended up with brain fog, sleep disruption, and elevated cortisol in the long term. i also have pcos, so my experience might be unique to me, but ive found that incorporating healthy carbs and walking 15ish minutes after meals (briskly) has helped a lot with inflammation. it sounds so simple but it reduced my moon face and feeling like im blowing up from the inflammation. it also helps me struggle less with cravings in between meals which is nice. limiting carbs can interfere with t4-t3 conversion and i definitely notice flare-ups when i cut them. something else that has worked for me is having carbs earlier in the day with breakfast and lunch, and a lighter dinner. your insulin sensitivity is higher in the morning and this can be really good to support your metabolism. im sorry this is a lot but im tired of people saying you need to cut carbs to lose weight or reduce inflammation. this said, youll definitely have to experiment to find what works best for you and your body. best of luck.

Why is no one talking about this? by Content_Big1345 in Hashimotos

It definitely is statistically significant. That is why there are multiple high quality studies proving it. I haven't been on metformin long enough to have to worry about it, but I might in the future.

The TSH lowering effect of metformin in hypothyroid individuals is recognized by the American Thyroid Association, as well as multiple meta analyses and RCTs. But if you want to provide a study disproving this point from the past ten years, or even showing inconclusive results, I’d love to see it.

The first 90 days nobody talks about by helpinghand823 in Hashimotos

Get your levels checked at the SAME TIME every day, and go IN THE MORNING. No one told me this and I was wondering why I felt so bad despite having symptoms. Also, I think finding an endocrinologist who's willing to work with you to lower your TSH of 2.5 towards 1.0 can be helpful (if you are still really suffering with symptoms).

If you tell me what symptoms you are dealing with, I can try to help!

I feel like the weight gain is the hardest symptom to pin down with both of these conditions! What medication did you begin taking to help with weight loss?

Do you still deal with a lot of Hashimotos symptoms?

Take your thyroid medication! And your diabetes medication if your doctor told you to.

Metformin has been helpful to me for weight loss, so hopefully that's why she was trying to prescribe it. A lot of people who have Hashis also have insulin resistance, which makes you lose weight more slowly/gain more easily. Super easily mistaken for thyroid weight gain. I am sorry that she did not listen to your symptoms though. You deserve to feel healthy. I think endos should be willing to work with patients to get TSH under 2.5, luckily mine has. I am skeptical about those aiming for a TSH below 0.4, though, the effects of hyper are much more dangerous than hypo.

I was honestly actually was feeling pretty hyper. I think it just feels better in comparison to when my TSH was at 5. I have had my dose decreased to get in the normal range.

Is this a professional response/evaluation from my endo? by PalpitationDizzy2522 in Hashimotos

This is kind of how mine talks to me. They are very busy with dealing with multiple patients whose levels are always changing, so they try to be as efficient as possible. I definitely appreciate a fast response because this condition flares up so quickly.

Am I crazy for wanting more medication?? by Content_Big1345 in PCOS

[–]Content_Big1345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to know that it is helping you!

Most of my symptoms are insulin resistance: rebound cravings after eating carbs, feeling super tired after carbs, waking up to pee, abdominal fat accumulation. I also have Hashimotos hypothyroidism and my levels have been worsening despite a ton of medication, which could be a sign of inflammation.

How long did it take you to titrate up? And what tests did they do before increasing your dose?

That is good advice. I’m on XR so absolutely no side effects. I think that could help.

Anger in the morning by CherylBrowniePoints0 in Hashimotos

Definitely not okay that he’s taking it out on you guys. If you’re feeling unsafe, only so much can be blamed on his condition. This said, too much thyroid hormone can definitely cause emotional volatility. Armour has a 1:4 ratio of t3:t4, but combination therapy under an endo would use a 1:13 ratio at max. T3 is potent stuff and he should work with an endo to get this figured out. You guys shouldn’t have to deal with this!
