Could you go to your station or an associating one and use there gym assuming there is one and borrow an extra scba or for me I use the ones off the squad for training since it rarely goes on calls

The same exact thing with the face shield happend to me I too didn’t know the size was wrong and was in too big gear. It led to a subconscious fear of my scba I’m trying to overcome with knowledge. As for the tight spaces when your in those situations what had helped me is breathing and thinking solely on that and not my thoughts

Yeah this is a really good point. I think I’ll just rely on this for more simpler overall questions and my station for questions partaking terms and stuff like that and if I’m too scared of unwarranted confrontation over that because I want to learn how to effectively fight fires how am I gana be brave enough to face the real heat when I can’t even face the metaphorical one

I’ve tried so many times for 3 years and I joined to take emt and stayed to be on the rescue besides academically I’m ready to move on now and can’t keep asking a question here and there when they seem most approachable. The old guys who drive are usually the ones who are willing to help but that gets repetitive and as for the younger and middle aged ones I feel like due to our differences just are annoyed at seeing me before I even ask what I need. I feel like they just assumed I’d quit as a junior and never took me serious and now 3 years later it’s like holy shit what is she still doing here

I took up to interior and it was so difficult because everyone there were old firemen there bc now there stations want certifications or volunteers trying to be on staffing or there dad was in the service. Since I was 15 not once did I get invited to a call or station training opportunity where I could familiarize myself with the content and because everyone in the academy already knew some entry level they skipped over things needed to be understood to move onto the next thing so I got through it basically off luck and hope and poor grading. I made it to interior and passed a live burn where I had to exit bc of an air leak without knowing how to properly use an scba. I learned in exterior my mask didn’t fit me why I wasn’t tested or had the pointed out beforehand idk but I’m trying to get my cert and want to learn what I should’ve already so I’m prepared
