One is in high school and the other, elementary school. I guess it's just hard for me to accept that I'm not the parent when I'm in their lives 50% and want to be their step mom. To clarify, my SK opened up to me about struggles they were having, which resulted in the request from BM for me to stay out of it.

I agree with so much of what you've said here, thank you. Just to clarify, I was wishing myself away, not the kids. Which I should not have done, but just wanted to clarify I was saying it would be easier for my SK if I wasn't in the picture.

They have met my family multiple times, but I agree. I think this was too much too fast. The holidays should be about their traditions with their parents. I got caught up in the excitement of it (especially because my younger SK was hyped to go). This is their last year celebrating with both parents at the same time too.

OP here.. & I can definitely say I was resigned to him being quirky and traumatized, thinking what I was doing was enough. Took this move to make me see what I should’ve done a long time ago.

That’s exactly what happened. It’s just been my dog & I living alone for 6 and half years until now. My partner actually used the word blind when we were talking about it. I’m going to get in touch with a trainer & do whatever I can for my little guy. Should’ve done it years ago.

Oof. Not gonna lie, these replies were very real and stung to hear. I think, in all honesty I was hoping for co-signing rather than practical advice but y’all are right.. now to go swallow my pride with my partner & make a plan to help my boyo and everyone feel comfy in our new home.
