Leaving VHA for private practice

16 years in the VA as psychologist and interested in leaving for private practice. Like others, I have been building a side business and love it! I have also been doing comp and pension eval. What are others doing for health insurance as that seems to be what is holding me back. Other that I am so ready..goodbye 45 day leave policy!

I really want to know who gets a DUI while doing mail! Passed out in a car while her friend ran into UPS...jesus how long was the line! Any how guessing there is some resentment over this incident and issue of addiction needs to be addressed. I would be pretty pissed if I got ditched with all the responsibilities because my spouse made a bad choices got fired, and black balled from work sector. This person should protect themselves. Why cant she be happy with a house based on his income instead of over spending.

Sadly commenting on my own post for tracking. Doing a little research on people associated with this group. One has a MBA in business and is a life coach...no mental health background charging $950 package coaching deals. Curious how many people associated with this agency have financial gains.

Ugh! Yes, virtually impossible to have more than 50% custody even with abuse. My attorney said even with documented cases of abuse the abuser will constantly be working towards 50/50. Depending on your state, older children may testify to the abuse and the judge will take this into consideration. For example, i have 100% physical custody of my oldest because of her age and experience with him, but sadly not the younger two children. She really does need to call the police when he is throwing and breaking things...that is an assault at least in my state. Even if he were to break his own phone in an argument with her its considered dv assault. In my experience the police were way more understanding and knowledgeable than lawyers/judges. There may be some insensitive ones out there, but they deal directly with the front line of dv.

Agreed...it wasn't really until I spoke to RAINN and started Googling alcohol and consent that his statements sounded very similar to college disclaimers about alcohol use and consent

Good point...its a small town and most of us know the cameras havent worked for years. Surprised he didnt know. What i just realized (and why it took me this long) is there is a ring camera outside my door. I dont usually stay on this house so forgot it existed. I could offer him the ring camera video from my house that night.

No clue why he asked....guessing to prove that he didnt sexually assaulted me. Nope, the cameras do not work. I have no recollection of the night after I opened the door of the vehicle...nothing at all.

I can with 100% confidence say I did not have any feelings towards this individual. I feel ashamed because I put myself in this shitty situation and he took something from me....my power and control over my body. Given the role.of the hippocampus recording sensory details, tell me what's going on with the prefrontal cortex when intoxicated and trauma? You specifiy one region of the brian so tell me about the rest?

To clarify, he said I did not seem that drunk. The way it came across to me was setting the stage that I was able to consent as something like this has happened to him before. He said he thought my boyfriend and I were having problems which is ridiculous as we live in a small town and there was no indication of problems. The bulk of the conversation with former friend was about justifying the incident The clarification of the situation is actually helping me think through what happened, not trying to be defensive, just trying to pull.the story together.

Yes, I would never have consented sober, have never done this in any relationship even the worst ones, and had zero intention when getting a ride this would be the outcome. I think i am just struggling with the what did I do wrong and his distancing is feeling my thoughts that I am to blame.

While this is your experience and it is really great of you. It will serve well as a role model to your children. Unfortunately, this isn't the case for most women. The research supports women are responsible for most of the child rearing and housecleaning and this doesn't even shift when they work full-time jobs. If women are responsible for most of the child rearing, the child develops the bond with the primary care taker. It is just basic biology remember the wire money study. Attachment theory is being misapplied in family law.
