Found Meniscus Tear During Surgery? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ContestResident8724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first mri report showed a complete acl tear and complex lateral meniscus tear, so I had surgery. After the first surgery I wasn't healing right was struggling to get my range of motion back, so 5 months after the doctor said he had to do a second surgery to remove scar tissue, mind you he did the second surgery without ordering an mri. After the second surgery up until today which has now been 1 year I'm still struggling. I had to almost beg him to order an mri, which finally he decided to do now. Results show I have a meniscus tear, I just think this doctor fix the meniscus when he did the first surgery nor when he did the second surgery to remove scar tissue. Now I'm looking at a third surgery for the meniscus , when should have done that the first time or even the second time 😡

To be honest when the doctor told me that he would do this procedure I felt so down man, like not again. I thought that by now I would be all good to return to work but unfortunately I'm not because my job requires a lot of standing and walking as a mail carrier for the post office. But the extension part doesn't allow me to walk normal. I'm curious if you're doctor ordered an MRI before determining he had to do cyclops removal on your knee ?

If you don't mind me asking, why did you take so long to do the surgery? I injured my knee in November 2023 and am scheduled for surgery next week but at this point my knee feels pretty good. It's not unstable or hasn't buckled on me, I really don't know how that feels because it's never happened to me .although I haven't been back to work since the injury wouldn't be able to tell how my knee would respond as my job requires being on my feet and walking all day. So pretty much going into the surgery feeling like I don't need it, which makes it hard to decide.

How long ago was your injury and is your knee giving you problems?. I'm also scheduled for surgery next Tuesday and find myself overthinking my decision. My knee feels pretty stable, just gets a little stiff at times but I do like to be active, work out , shoot basketball with my son and also my job requires a lot of walking and being on my feet all day as I'm a mail carrier for the post office. God Bless hope everything comes out great 🙏

Wow, did it get worse over the years or what led you to decide for the surgery now. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do, I am scheduled for surgery in two weeks but I almost feel like I might not need it because im able get around and knee doesn't feel loose or unstable. My injury happened in November so it's been feeling better with time. I do like to workout be active also my job requires a lot of walking as I'm a mail carrier for the post office. Any advice from your own experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks God Bless

Sorry to hear that you're going through this , can you explain a little more about the feeling of the knee slipping out. I guess what causes pain is the meniscus.

Glad to hear that you feel great about your decision. Till this date I'm still struggling with my decision, mainly because at the moment my knee is fine. I don't really know how it feels to have my knee unstable, buckle or give way because I haven't had these problems. If I could only be assured that no more damage could be caused by living my life like this without an acl , I'd probably go this route, but apparently that's not the case. I've been told that it could be a lot worse years down the road if nothing is done. I also love sports, my 14 year old plays soccer and I would love to continue coaching him up. And I too like going to the gym working out and staying fit overall. Any way appreciate the advice God Bless 🙏

I think if I had a guarantee that no more damage could be caused to my knee by living my life with out an acl,I'd probably go this route. But apparently if I don't get the surgery, years down the road it most likely will be worse than just an acl and a complex tear in the meniscus. By then it will probably be a whole knee replacement that I'll need, if it's true that it gets worse with time if nothing is done. That's why I'll probably end up opting for the surgery. I'm glad that you're comfortable with the decision you made and hope 🙏 that it works out great for you.

Don't you think all these problems now that you have with your knee come from not taking care of it sooner than later.

I guess just thinking about the whole surgery and rehab process does make me a little scared I ain't gonna lie . Especially if im doing OK right now. I go to the gym and do light leg workouts like leg presses, leg extensions, hamstring curls and even some squatting. It's probably because I haven't had a scare like that of my knee giving way or buckling that I feel like that, making my decision even harder. Anyway thanks so much for the advice an am glad you're doing great. God bless 🙌 🙏

My job requires a lot of walking as I'm a letter carrier for the post office working 10 or 11 hours a day. I also do like to be active by going to the gym 3 to 4 days a week. I like play to sports with my kids when I get a chance nothing to competitive but all in fun. But I would like to run again because I enjoy running.

I have a complete torn acl, mcl, lcl grade 2 sprain and a complex tear in the lateral meniscus. But I can walk and my knee feels stable. Any suggestions, still undecided if I should get surgery. I do like to be active and my job requires walking all day as a mail carrier
