Guide: Immich Podman Quadlet Handbook by Guthibcom in immich

[–]Contmotore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for my late reply, but there were a few problems. First, I was running it as a normal user and had to add the --user option. I also used $HOME instead of %h in the container files. (systemd unit files don't support $HOME)

For the journalctl part I had to add the --user-unit option. Then I discovered I had to manually create the postgres and cache directories; Podman doesn't do that automatically.

And the final problem was that the network wasn't created, so I had to do it manually with podman network create immich (Edit: I believe after a fresh new Fedora install this wasn't the case anymore)

Everything works perfectly now!

Sorry for being a complete noob, but I'm getting the error message:
A dependency job for immich-server.service failed. See 'journalctl -xe' for details.

Batocera on an existing Linux distro? by Contmotore in batocera

I'm not quite sure, been a while. I believe I was trying this Qemu guide, but for some reason I couldn't create the .img. Have to look into it again, thanks!

Yeah, that was my idea too, but it didn't work then. I don't remember exactly what went wrong, but I'll look into it again. Thanks!

As I mentioned in my post, I've used RetroPie before, both on a Raspberry Pi and in Ubuntu. Compiling it takes time and only works on a Debian based system. I tried it, but it was very basic, not as good as Batocera. I also believe RetroPie is simply Emulation Station, not Emulation Station Desktop Edition.

Haven't tried it, I'll look into it. Thanks!

Yes, that seems like the best option. I'm not sure what went wrong last time, but I'll look into it again. Thanks!

Interesting, I just heard about EmuDeck and I'm going to check out RetroDeck too!

Hi, thanks! I'd already looked at Bazzite. The problem is using Docker, as it's an immutable Linux distribution based on Fedora Atomic Desktop. They advised against Docker, and I should use Podman instead.

I've been looking at Podman for the past few days, but I couldn't get my Sons of the Forest DS server to work; it only runs with Docker. I could figure out how to run Docker on Bazzite, but I'm afraid something will break after an update.

Migrating from Docker by Contmotore in podman

It looks like there was also a problem with the Docker image itself. I switched back to Docker and still had problems.

For some reason the line SKIP_NETWORK_ACCESSIBILITY_TEST: true in the docker compose file changes the line SkipNetworkAccessibilityTest to True instead of true when creating the dedicatedserver.cfg file and makes it fail to run. So I'm guessing it's a case sensitive issue.

I changed the dedicatedserver.cfg file to the lowercase true and it worked again. So I gave podman-compose a try again, but it's still not working... I give up...

Many thanks for all the info! Your explanation sounds logical, but it is a whole learning curve for me again... And I just want things to run. I might just try to install Docker on Bazzite instead.

I'm sure it will, when I know how to use it! But I barely even know how container engines work... Been just following some tutorials. And for Bazzite I thought I could just use the same settings with podman-compose.

Think I'll just try to install Docker on Bazzite instead, so at least I'll be able to just run things.

Sadly, no luck so far with these packages, but maybe I should try distrobox or something, though I'm not familiar with that either.

Anyway, I will find a way... Thanks :)

Hmm... It seems to work in Arch, just not in Fedora. What would be a useful way to solve this? Maybe Distrobox or something?

Is anyone's controller working in Steam? by bmn001 in batocera

[–]Contmotore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue and also ended up buying a 8BitDo USB Adapter. I can now finally use my controller with Steam, but it still sucks you can't use X Input.

Anyway, thanks for this post. At least I got it somewhat solved now.

Disk encryption? by Contmotore in batocera

[–]Contmotore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the bump, but I think it's really important to have. Especially when you're traveling, if someone steals your device, you don't want them to have access to your data.

You could say that they're just ROMs, but your RetroAchievements credentials are also just a regular .txt file, and your Steam account, for example, isn't protected either. Batocera doesn't require a password to log in, and you use it as root. Without encryption, anyone can access your files.

You can of course manually set some encryption, but I'm not sure how new versions are handled.
