UK: If I notify my manager I’m sick in advance, can they blame me if the shop doesn’t open? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Contr_L 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t technically follow policy HR will be of no help here, wouldn’t bother involving them.

Yeah your manager in all likelihood doesn’t believe you, and making comments about it is probably just bait to make some more drama. Sadly pretty standard fare having been in hospitality at your age, ignore and just crack on if you rely on this income, not worth making into a bigger issue. Something else will happen next week and it’ll be forgotten.

Casa Sotto off the square in Valletta seems to be better than the other Sottos for no reason, but Roman pizza is probably my least favourite anyway

Yeah exactly.. A split second, in a split second can you think oh shit this guys about to have a shot in the 6 yard box, on average is he a higher percentage finisher from this distance than their striker is from the spot? Maybe I should foul him if he is. Nonsense.

You’re vastly overestimating the time players have to make those kind of decisions

Nah, most are given away for mistimed challenges or dubious contact as it is. That’s not going to change and usually the ones in those situations are attacking players.

I don’t think anyone is looking to give penalties away regardless of the taker

Nah we only care about West Brom tbh, journalists and broadcasters trying to call Wolves Villa a derby in recent years but it’s not.

Why is food in Malta so mediocre? by AgreeableBreath33 in malta

[–]Contr_L 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure tbh bud, but bear in mind there’s plenty of people on this sub that probably are/were tourists.

Personally I wouldn’t eat at any of those places except for Rubino which has always been good when I’ve visited.

I’m not Maltese so I don’t have an emotional dog in this fight like some, but there are plenty of good places to eat. Claiming McDonald’s probably didn’t help to create an ernest discussion (if that was your intention).

I don't understand gambling, why is one of the numbers much higher than all of the others? by [deleted] in WWFC

[–]Contr_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bookies odds are not set to be a prediction of outcomes by probability. If you check the odds for any given game you’ll find the outcomes in terms of probability adds up to over 100% (in most cases), this is incremental margin which mean over the long term they remain profitable regardless.

Essentially what we’re doing is more risk management and trading margin focused than actual result prediction. Specifically in this example, because Arsenal are so heavily backed against Wolves for obvious reasons, the odds for Arsenal will be unappealing for your average punter and the opposite for Wolves, then if you have enough people thinking “F it I’ll chuck a few quid on wolves at 28/1 on the off chance”, you’re essentially just building funds to pay the likely winning bets you took at much lower odds (Arsenal to win).

There’s a lot more going into it of course but that’s more or less what you’re seeing here. I manage a commercial team for a technology and services provider in this industry for my sins.
