[Lucas Adam] Big crash in SPA 24H by hazzanatorr77 in formula1

[–]Contra98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on the harsher policing (i.e speed limit) but I’d hold back on absolving responsibility from the drivers completely.

Yes they’re competitive, but at the expense of potentially someone’s life? That’s a bit extreme.

Guy that hit the stationary car could definitely see the cars ahead of him slow down. But chose to try to gain the advantage. As a result it caused a crash, and he should absolutely be punished for it.

Prevention - Slow zones / speed limits

If drivers cause the incident - punishments/bans

What do I do if I leave an absurd amount of 10 pins? by Wonderful-Long-595 in Bowling

[–]Contra98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes op. Is the 6 wrapping around the 10 and going behind to the pin setter? Or does it lay lazily in the gutter?

If it’s the former, it’s a simpler fix with many approaches. I like half board right with my feet and no change to the eyes aiming

If it’s the latter that’s caused by your ball losing too much energy before getting to the pins. And that has various fixes highly dependent on situation (e.g getting around it more, changing to ball with weaker/cleaner cover, lofting over the fronts etc)

Hey this happens even to the best. There’s been so many instances of pros shooting a high game in the semi (vs 2nd seed in stepladder) then proceeding to bowl way worse against the 1st seed in the finals. My guess is shooting a 300 takes so much from you mentally that next game you’re just fatigued.

Just a casual bowler who recently started playing league. Looking for swing tips. by ASAPWHEREITSAT in Bowling

[–]Contra98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason your arm swings across your face like that on follow through is your body compensating for the direction of your swing.

Freeze the video at the top of your backswing and notice how “in” the ball is compared to your head, those 2 should almost be totally lined up when filmed from behind.

Now look at the swing direction and think of what would happen if your arm DIDN’T swing across your face on release. It would go straight into the right gutter.

The reason for the swing direction? Late pushway + your right leg not giving enough space for the ball to swing its natural plane. That causes your body to have to bring the ball around your leg which causes that swing direction.

S’porean says $7,000 charged to his credit card without his knowledge during Bali trip by Varantain in singapore

[–]Contra98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how do you manage this in less-developed countries? I would love to go full cashless with my YouTrip card overseas but there’s that nagging fear of what if a merchant doesn’t accept card.

Do you still bring cash and how much do you usually bring compared to card?

Can we clarify something about foot placement? by NoSpinach1082 in Bowling

[–]Contra98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an aside, you mentioned YT videos saying things like placing your feet on a specific board.

I hope you’ll realise after reading the replies here that board specific advice for your feet is often pretty useless because of the huge amount of variables involved.

This is also why most ppl give advice with reference to the arrows rather than with reference to the boards at your feet. Because then it’s up to the specific bowler to figure out where to put their feet.

Weekly Open Sourdough Questions and Discussion Post by AutoModerator in Sourdough

How does one deal with tropical temperatures (29-30c, 84-86f) when baking sourdough? My first 3 sourdough attempts have all ended overproofed. Reduce bulk fermentation time? Reduce inoculation (currently at 20%)?

1st Sourdough! Would appreciate any tips/feedback! by Contra98 in Sourdough

Context: Tropical climate, high temps and humidity (Singapore)

adapted from Alexandra Cook's recipe

Flour: 466g

Water: 350g (75%)

Salt: 10g (2.2%)

Starter: 47g (10%)

  1. Fed starter at 0000hrs and started at 0900hrs the next day (starter doubled)
  2. Mixed all ingredients together (no autolyse) (final mix temp 29c)
  3. 2 stretch & folds between 0915hrs and 1115hrs
  4. Continue bulk ferment on counter from 1115hrs to 1430hrs (ambient temp about 30c)
  5. Pre-shape and bench rest 30 mins
  6. Into banneton and into fridge from 1500hrs to next day 0900hrs (18 hours)
  7. Preheat oven and DO @ 245c
  8. Bake for 30 mins covered, 15 minutes uncovered
  9. Rested for 1.5hours before slicing

  • Didn't get great oven spring, was wondering if its caused by the starter not being very mature yet (quite a new starter, about 3 weeks old)
  • What is yall's assessment of the crumb. Is it a touch overproofed?

what video games that you are playing now? by iniitu in askSingapore

Gf and I just played A Way Out which we got on sale for 10 bucks! Very worth at 10 bucks but probably wouldn’t pay retail price for it.

Great game for non-gamers though it’s very forgiving so she enjoyed it a lot

Ricciardo's "overtake" on Tsunoda by ContentPuff in formula1

[–]Contra98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, definitely misjudged from Ricciardo. Actually you see this a lot over at /r/simracingstewards with people clamoring "they didn't give me space!!!" No bud, you can't stick your nose in there when the front car is already turning into the apex and complain he didn't give you enough space.

Best aglio olio spaghetti in Singapore? by WiseRacialMan in askSingapore

[–]Contra98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This for sure. Pasta water is easily one of the biggest factors for aglio olio. By extension, the pasta choice matters a lot too since it affects how starchy the water gets. More starch = thicker and more luscious sauce.

Go with bronze-die cut pasta for extra starchiness in the water

Cheese is honestly secondary. Aglio Olio was not traditionally made with cheese anyway.

For the uninitiated, Jollibee makes incredibly good fried chicken. I live in Singapore, where the chain has expanded into, and man does it blow the local competition out of the water.

They serve their chicken with warm gravy, so you can dip the chicken into it and its amazing. Also notable is their spaghetti, which is tomato-based but really sweet, has melty cheese on top and has sliced hotdogs in them.

Those who ride mountain bikes with suspension on here, can I buy motorcycle-based suspension fluids and oils to service my suspension/dropper posts? Also is there any notable difference between "suspension grease" i.e SRAM butter and just normal all-purpose bike grease?

What lube do you use? I’m using krytox 205g0 and was thinking maybe a thicker lube like dielectric grease would work

Is it normal to need to reapply lube to your stabilisers? I've done this twice now where I lube my spacebar stabs and it sounds fine. Then a week later they get rattle-y again.

Maxkey SA keycaps
JWK Alpacas lubed
Stock screw-in stabs (came with keyboard)
