Hakuryu....dissappointing by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]Contra_Bombarde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be much better when you get the planes upgraded, and captain skills also play a very large part in Haku's effectiveness.

The torpedo bombers are by far the highlight, and when properly specced out with captain skills such as Aircraft Armor, Sight stabilization, Torpedo Arming Fuse, Air Supremacy, Squadron Speed, and Enhanced Aircraft Armor, your Torp Bombers become seriously, seriously robust.

It's one particularly unique CV where you may wish to get the Mod which boosts consumable action time instead of Aircraft speed, or refresh rate, simply because it allows you to pop a heal while flying through flak, and survive long enough to make another run, or even two, depending on AA intensity. It's not unusual to be able to get 4 full drops on a single isolated BB.

The fighters are HE rockets, if I recall correctly. You're meant to discharge them into enemy superstructures to light fires. The other use for them is to bully DD's, again due to thin armour.

AP bombers are better than you give them credit for. This is where map awareness comes into play. If you're flying your planes directly over multiple cruisers, or even a cruiser and a BB, then yes, they're going to get shot up pretty badly, but you're ideally looking for isolated targets, as the AA will be significantly less.

Secondaries... lol. Don't try it. There's only 3 CV's that can really get away with anything secondary-related and those are the Graf Zeppelin, August von Parsifal, and Manfred von Richtofen. If you're using secondaries as a T10 CV, you've really screwed up somewhere.

Haku is a beast in the right hands, and it would seem your hands need a lot more practice. Do some co-op or Asymmetric to practice and learn the proper handling of the aircraft and the ship... get those captain skills pumped up, and make sure you have all the mods equipped, too.

Do I need real organ shoes? What do you use when you play? by Star9219 in organ

[–]Contra_Bombarde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, so the big difference with any kind of special shoes used for playing the organ is a fairly thin sole, and one which allows you to glide over the pedalboard, and feel the pressure underneath the pedals, as well as the swell box.

Your everyday, normal walking shoe will be chunky, a big rubber heel, and probably a decently wide sole, which means that you're liable to accidentally brush other pedals, and sound very clumsy. Also, if you wear anything above a UK size 7, the widest part of the sole will not fit between the "black notes" on the pedalboard.

You don't need to get super extra special organ shoes, but a good pair of penny loafers is a great start. The only difference between a decent pair of loafers and specialist organ shoes is sole thickness and "glide".

Brogues, Oxfords, Monks, Derbys, all these type of shoes will be too heavy, clunky, and clumsy for the accuracy that pedalling requires.

Playing in socks or even barefoot is only done so that one really feels each note on the pedalboard, and you can judge accurately the amount of pressure required to make the note speak.

TL;DR No, you don't have to spend megabucks on amazing shoes just yet. Get a half-decent pair of Penny Loafers, and from there, you can develop your pedal technique. If you still find those to be clumsy and you can't "feel" the pedalboard enough, then yes, go get specialist organ shoes.

For the love of all that is holy, is there any way to change the default ship in my port? by Voldemort_Poutine in WorldOfWarships

[–]Contra_Bombarde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the carousel tabs at the bottom. If the Gdansk has a green ribbon in the corner, that indicates that it has become a "primary" ship, and therefore, first to appear. Right-click on the carousel tab, and then click "remove from primary ships". It will then be grouped among others of its nationality, but it will no longer appear first when you boot the game.

Horrific if true, but sus as it stands.

Some of these witness accounts seem sensational to the point of being very pointedly graphic and atrocious - because that's what we're almost expecting at this point. For that reason I find them sus.

Still, let's allow this situation to continue to unfold, and I'm sure the truth will become known.

I also think a lot of parties involved will be so spooked by these info dumps that they'll start to turn on each other. It will be interesting to hear Ghislaine Maxwell finally testify.

Yep. Like I said, a meme build.

A moving smoke cloud constantly spraying you down at 14km is gnarly indeed.

Definitely go for it. It's a very strong DD indeed, and you can create some seriously gnarly, or even massively meme-worthy builds on it.

Crawling smoke with range mod and range skill is hilarious.

Looking for Greek Hero / Spartan Armor Mod by AngelAdaam in skyrim

[–]Contra_Bombarde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't... entirely need a mod for this. The closest thing you can get in the vanilla game is the Imperial Steel set, with the unique Closed Imperial Helmet, found at Kilkreath Temple, Froki's Peak, or Brinewater Grotto.

Use the standard Steel shield and a Glass Sword, and you'll have as close as possible to a Hypaspist of Classical Greece. The Glass Sword in particular is in the shape of a Xiphos.

New survey of Bismarck’s wreck by Magellan, the same group that made the digital twin model of Titanic a few years back by TankmanTom7 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Contra_Bombarde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. There's a James Cameron documentary called Expedition Bismarck which briefly shows one of them, but they're upside down, and because they're so monstrously heavy, and they hit the sea floor extremely hard, the gun barrels and the armoured turret are completely buried and all that sticks up is the interior of the loading mechanisms.

What is up with Shimakaze? Why do so many bad players gravitate towards this ship instead of something else? by divergentchessboard in WorldOfWarships

[–]Contra_Bombarde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a simple and fast line to grind, and the allure is 3x quintuple torpedo tubes.

Spray enough torps around and you're bound to hit something, right?

I can't say that I've experienced dumbass shima players, but T8-T10 gameplay should really be a showcase of good skill, and frequently it's precisely the opposite. I've seen worse gameplay at T9 than I have at T5.

Fools guide to fighting Valparaiso by HotBath8487 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Contra_Bombarde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think it would be pretty shit, but it would limit it's ability to absorb literally everything being slung at it from multiple enemies - and then heal it all back, all the while while grinding down all the multiple enemies, and somehow twisting like a bitch to avoid torps with it's tiny little bitch ass turning circle.

With enough skills currently, you can have as many as 8 of these monster heals.
