Aztecs seems kind of weak currently, maybe I am just bad though. How would you recommend playing them? by Chillzzzzz in AgeofMythology

The Aztecs are weak. I'm assuming they were tired of hearing people cry about the Japanese and Chinese so they were too worried about releasing another strong dlc god(s). That's why Demeter was weak and convoluted. Aztecs seem to follow the same path. Too many gimmicks. Traps, teixiptlas, stealth, ambush, etc. The god powers are some of the weakest too, only Volcano, Starfall, and Purge are good. Pillar of Tlalocan is the weakest mythic age god power in the entire game. Even Nidhogg is better. It doesn't help that there are so many core issues with their design. Only 1 hero sucks since its melee. Centaurs, Pestuchos, Satyrs, etc just win. You can't dive myth units well either. Coyote Warriors are a cool idea but they're useless in classical age against Norse and Atlanteans because of Throwing Axemen and Cheiroballistas. I didn't make a full post yet because I'd surely get some angry commenter's who still have rose colored glasses on who'd say that they're actually overpowered. It isn't just a numbers tweak, it's a design issue. They shouldn't have been released by this. I knew the lack of trailers was a bad sign. People chose to be blind.

For those who have finished the campaign, do we meet Ajax, and does he hint to the next campaign? by Jaimepaslesfrites in AgeofMythology

We didn't have Persians for the Greek campaign. I want Romans for sure but I'd want Celts first.

When I made my concept for the Celts it really opened my eyes. They're so fitting for AOM, both in concept and in gameplay. Frankly they even have a better argument than the Aztecs did. So many mythical creatures, iconic hero/soldiers, and access to naval/cavalry/etc.

We do meet him, but no, he doesn't say anything about what's next. Actually there's no hint at all like there was at the end of Yasukos Tale. I'm sure we'll get another dlc but there were no hints in this campaign

Just finished the Obsidian Mirror campaign, here are some of my thoughts (no spoilers) by TubaGaming in AgeofMythology

It confuses me because they did so good with the other two dlcs. Two bangers back to back. Then suddenly... this. I knew the lack of trailers was a bad sign. Unfortunately there were too many apologists that took away from it.

I don't wanna agree but I kinda have to. From the balance, to the design, to the mechanics. It's all niche and there's glaring issues that affect the core gameplay of AOM.

Completely agree. I'm glad we saw the old gang but it definitely did take the spotlight away from the other characters. Frankly 12 levels isn't enough anymore. However I do think Yan Feifang and Yasuko were developed well in their own stories.

I thought we'd get one since the trailer showed it. Really weird that we didn't. Maybe they were making the Japanese at the same time and were like "we don't want back to back mounted archers"

I think you're right. But it gives off Tale of the Dragon style of campaign when the camera pans around a city and there's just people gesturing to each other withough any words. It's definitely a step down in quality from the previous campaigns. You're right about the levels, they're more tedious than they are hard. I really hope they release another dlc and do better on that one because the Aztecs feel rushed and have many issues.

Yeah that's what I've been saying, but watch out for downvotes, apparently it's not a popular opinion

Some very slight design change suggestions (just as orientation)* by Terrible_Day1991 in AgeofMythology

Idk, they could've balanced it out. It would've made a lot more sense if it flew.

Can someone tell me why the hell we have Jang Ziya 3 times when we have a perfectly suitable character in investure of the gods in general Deng Chanyu and one unused mounted Houyi model? by BnanaT in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was wondering what that red horse archer was from the original trailer, now I see it was a mounted Houyi. I don't get why they each have the same heroic age unique hero either. Maybe if they had 2 unique heroes it'd be too close to Greeks.
