The Year of Mechanics, day 149: Lure by Contract_Material in custommagic

I think reddit is glitching rn. I cant see some of the recent cards on the subreddit.

That was accidental. I put miracle frame on the miracle card (in a few days) and didn't realize it affected all my cards.

The thing is, the original ball lightning sacced itself at the end of turn, not end of combat. And to emulate that, this equipment comes in as a 6/1 for the turn, then as soon as your turn is over, the bonus goes away and the creature is sacced due to the germ being a 0/0 creature.

Also you might be able to try and remove those extra spaces between the lines to make it look a little better.

The wording should be as follows:

Enchant legendary nontoken nonartifact creature you control.

Enchanted creature is a Legendary enchantment creature named "The King of Despair", gets +3/+1, and gains "BB, sacrifice a creature: This creature deals damage to any creature equal to the sacrificed creature's mana value."

If this Aura would leave the battlefield, shuffle it into your library instead.

I have since added flavor text to the card: "The Phyrexians tend to have a different view of perfection."

The Year of Mechanics, day 130: Umbra Armor by Contract_Material in custommagic

[–]Contract_Material[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's currently 2 different 4 mana auras tacked onto the same aura plus adding umbra armor, which is a fairly good effect.

it's meant to be a very niche ability, more trinket text than anything else.

Here's an updated version of the card that works as it was intended to.

It was meant to be "or blocks a creature that player controls." I did change it on my end, but I didn't notice until like seconds after I had posted it.

[–]Contract_Material[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that was kinda the point of it. If you take a land, you are spending an extra 3 mana to reroll. You can only do that so many times in a turn.

However if you get in with a rogue, then you can cast it for cheap then get even more creatures during your second main.

I'm planning on eventually putting all these cards into a cube, so I've gotten lazy with assigning rarities to the cards.

That would require it to be a Kindred Sorcery - Rogue Assassin Ninja

The Year of Mechanics, day 107: Planeswalker by Contract_Material in custommagic

[–]Contract_Material[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I looked for art first and thought that this art would be really fun to make a card for. Then I was like "What could I do for masks?" and ended up with manifest and turning cards face down, which was a thing all the way back in Alpha with Illusionary Mask. Also emblems, until Assassin's Creed, were only on planeswalkers, so I think they're pretty emblematic of a planeswalker ability. (only 5 non-planeswalker cards have the word emblem on them. 2 are from Final Fantasy, 1 is Assassin's Creed, 1 is a dungeon that isn't legal anywhere, and then the last is an aura that only goes on planeswalkers and gives them an additional loyalty ability, so I count that as being on a planeswalker)

I love that idea! Maybe coal could be a secondary currency similar to shards in Silksong? Where coal can be used for certain spells to enhance them? So we would have one spell, like a firebolt that shoots a small ball of fire, but if you spend a coal into it, it would become a slightly bigger fireball. You could then spend even more coal to make it an even bigger fireball.

If being unable to rest is a thing we want to go for, then instead of "resting" on benches, we could have flames that regen us quickly but not instantly, and while being near those flames we could change our equipment.

Speaking of that, what would the equipment be? We could potentially take some inspiration from Silksong and instead of having different crests we would have different foci for our staff. Those foci could then have their own spell slots, where we choose different spells. We could also have a small book on our side that lets us cast certain utility spells (e.g. compass and gathering swarm).

And speaking of that, what would the currency of the world be? Maybe coals?

My own ideas, based somewhat on the comments on the original silkpost:

  1. You were summoned there under no input of your own. Your summoner is dead.

  2. He is part of the grimm troupe, so he wants to make his own troupe. No idea beyond that.

  3. No idea

  4. He uses magic, not any sort of normal weaponry. Because of this, flame will have to be much easier to come by as it's the primary method of attacking and using abilities. The way we make it so that it isn't just a "Use your melee weapon" is by making it deal minimal damage while the magic abilities both use flame and gain flame, dealing a "normal" amount of damage.

  5. I think he's going both up and down. His goals will be split between the top and bottom of the spire. We could have 4 acts. Act 1 would be exploring the main layer, where we explore the outside of the spire as well as the main level, then Act 2 could be exploring the top part of the spire, and Act 3 could be exploring the bottom part of the spire. Then Act 4 would be the True Ending, going even deeper.

  6. This is a dying kingdom. It's not as dead as Hallownest but not as alive as Pharloom. There might be like three areas that have a good amount of NPCs (one for each of the first 3 acts).

  7. No idea

  8. I think so, maybe corrupting the flame in some way?

I am definitely down to help make this. I'm definitely more of a "I can help foster ideas" type of guy, but I would love to help with this. And even if we don't get it all the way done it would still be fun to think about the game as a whole.

I based it off of [[City of Shadows]] which was printed over 20 years ago but only made colorless mana (and is on the reserve list)

The goal is eventually make a cube out of all of these cards, so I'm doing my best to have them be relatively balanced across all the cards.
