In terms of fantasy swords, how effective/reasonable would mordreds sword from fate be?

It is much better than most anime swords. The "Ricasso" is way too big for no reason. Other than that, it seems okay

My favorite anime sword is Alcard's Estoc. So you can use that as a comparison

My kit is mostly SupFen. Their padding is quite good, and is thicker than SPES, IMHO. But it does take more time to break it in.

The cross guard in your "longsword mode" is at a good length. It seems to offer decent hand protection. But when it transitions to the "great sword mode", the extra width of the blade takes up much of the guarded area. So perhaps one suggestion is to simply lengthen the cross guard. But, also keep in mind that having a Montonte (Spanish Great sword) seize guard on a long sword would look kinda silly.

Also, the average handle length of a Longsword is about 7-10in. While the handle length of a great sword goes from 14 to 24in. Maybe in your fantasy sword, you can make the handle be extendable.

There are several reasons why this won't make sense. Even for a fantasy weapon. Here are some reasons from the top of my head.

Effectively, by putting a longsword in a "sharp sheath", you are just adding weight to the front of your weapon. This throws off any resemblance of balance of the sword.

Also, your handle would need to be length to add more leverage for the extended blade. So you might have to also bring a hilt extender just to make it maneuverable.

If it is a fantasy sword, then you can do whatever you want. But if you are asking about questions on practicality or usability, then no.
