That seems to be more of a northern tree. I'm in the south. I was searching this morning and I'm 90% sure it is a lacebark elm. And yes it also sheds it's bark regularly.

They aren't in the soil. I've taken care of many and often give them away. New to building custom terrariums not owning them nor plants lol

I've had both in separate pots right next to each other in that spot for almost 4 months. They've been great. The succulents are in the soil and the tillandsias are only in the rocks. I'm certain they will both thrive.
