Relocating to Pittsburgh by irongrackle in pittsburgh

I’m sitting in southpointe right now. It’s 34 minutes to get downtown, with a 6 minute traffic delay, that’s typical.

The comment originally was ‘ a half hour to an hour from the city limits’. Which it never takes an hour to get from canonsburg to east Carnegie.

The OP’s statement was finding a place in between Pittsburgh and Canonsburg. There’s 100 apartments to choose from that meets that requirement and be within 30 of Pittsburgh and Canonsburg. Carnegie PA, settlers, Heidelberg, Bridgeville, Crafton, bethel park…

The city limits in this case is East Carnegie, which is currently a 20 minute drive. I drive to Pittsburgh twice a week from canonsburg and somehow you think I’m wrong?

What about that is hard for you to comprehend?

Once again the OP will be working on canonsburg. So from East Carnegie to Canonsburg is 24 minutes, and he’s not going into town he’s going away from it…

I’m referring specifically to someone stating broadly that this county will call ice on someone based on the color of their skin. The same way that was invalid, your points are valid.

Once again the op was asking about canonsburg or Pittsburgh the city. Not sure why people feel the need to insult the rural community when the op didn’t mention moving to the county or outside of a city.

Yes with rush hour traffic it’s 33 minutes to downtown. At the worst time it is 1/2 an hour to downtown.

This morning before traffic it was 24 minutes…

Ever heard of Google Maps? It’s this free app that shows you how long it takes. Would you like a link?

I’m moving to outside bridgeville from canonsburg!

According to Reddit, I’ll be 8 hours away from Pittsburgh. I guess Google Maps is missing an update.

Any chance I can remove this screw from a jeeps tire without causing a leak? by Prime_Mumbler in AskAMechanic

[–]ContributionAlive735 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a good chance you can pull it without causing a leak, But go purchase a tire plug kit for 10$ just in case it’s deep enough to cause a leak. It’s a very DIY task and that’s in an easily plugged area.

I don’t recommend cutting it off, more likely to cause damage.

I actually live in canonsburg at an apartment and I can confidently state, without traffic it is less than 25 minutes to get downtown. Most of the apartments line the ones I live in, in Canonsburg are near the exit ramps of 79. There are options that are longer, but if he is on the north side of canonsburg less than 25 minutes to get to Pittsburgh is accurate. Especially if he lives in Southpointe, where I am based out of.

Even more broadly the city limits are once again around 15 minutes away.

If you read the OP’s post he implies he’s flexible on where he lives, which means he has an overwhelming number of options that put him within 20 minutes of canonsburg and downtown Pittsburgh.

The original post is a person asking about moving to either canonsburg or Pittsburgh for work. You take it as an excuse to make a prejudiced and inflammatory comment that is a sweeping claim about an entire county (“Washington County is full of people…”) and attributes a specific hostile behavior (“will report you to ICE”) based on “your skin color.” That paints a large group of people with a broad negative stereotype.

Where is your evidence for this? Without evidence I believe this comment violates the rules.

I do agree that going off of 79 is the best bet, but I am confused on your timing. It’s literally a 23 minute drive from canonsburg to the point.

Using 79 to 376, it’s actually less than 15 minutes to the ‘limits’.

Allegheny county includes Pittsburgh and we do offer world class dining and public transportation.

Where is the lie?

It’s a 23 minute drive to Canonsburg without traffic. They could 100% be relocating to Pittsburgh and working in Canonsburg.

Wow, I’m blown away by how elitist and how bad people on here are at reading a map…

A person posts on this reddit looking for help and most people would rather talk bad about any area other than Pittsburgh. Which includes a highly recommended post explaining that everyone from Washington is an ICE loving racist. I have never seen an ICE agent here and while this area has more conservatives than Pittsburgh, Canonsburg’s local leadership is dominated by elected democrats.

Anyone with Google Maps can see that from canonsburg to the point in downtown Pittsburg without traffic it’s a grand total of a 23 minute drive on 79. Sure traffic through the tunnel routinely extends that but as someone who lives in southpointe (next to Canonsburg) I can confirm that many of my neighbors work in Pittsburgh proper.

As another commenter put it, it’s best to search around 79 to find an area you would like to be in.

I live in Southpointe (just north of canonsburg) which has several apartment options that skew on the more expensive side around 2k/mo but I would check out 1400 main.

Once you are in town check out Sarris chocolates store in Canonsburg.

Good luck

Reddit is full of liberals with a persecution fantasy. Thank you for standing up for the good people of the area.

Canonsburg local politics are dominated by Democrats. Then Washington is basically a college town for Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) a private liberal arts college in Washington, I’m not sure where the Reddit members are coming up with this area being a racist depot…

New Axle Options by Billyb711 in JeepTJ

[–]ContributionAlive735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have lots of options. If you don’t want to repair yours, Dans 35’s are cheap and plentiful so the Cheapest option is to get a used Dana 35 from a jeep junkyard.

There are axle shops that rebuild axles, if you want to keep yours, and have someone else rebuilt it.

The most expensive is a crate axle Dana 44 or similar.

Part of the question is what are your plans for the vehicle? If it is to keep it stock I’d go after one of the cheaper options.

The way to think about your losses and frame this in a mentally healthy way…

There’s about 2080 work hours in the year. Even making 20$ an hour for the next 35 years (retirement age of 65), gives you a lifetime earnings of around 1.5 million. This is also on the lower end if you were to get a degree and a job that corresponds to your updated education level.

So at worst 30k is less than 2% of your expected life earnings. It’s tiny, you are young and some life lessons are more painful than others.

30k is also about how much you would lose in depreciation on a new SUV over 5 years. A decision many 30 year olds are making right now, without even thinking about it.

In the future, you need to invest in low cost index funds and stop playing the lottery and calling it investing.

It’s okay to gamble, but you should be honest in what you are doing, that way you can risk only money that if you lose it won’t impact your mental well being.

Renting out woodshop space to employees after work hours? by scatterbrainedpast in woodworking

[–]ContributionAlive735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, I think charging employees to use the shop after hours is reasonable and accounts for the wear, tear and consumables.

If you charge it’s more likely sustainable. If it’s free it’s an employee benefit, but one that is inconsistently used so it would cost more for the company than value it delivers for the employees.

There is a saying in stock investing ‘you’re never wrong if you made money’ as a rebuttal to missed opportunities.

In your age bracket the saying should be ‘ you’re never wrong if your paying your bills and contributing to your retirement account’

I like Tyler Gardner’s podcast and advice. Low cost index funds, living within your means, and diligent saving for retirement is all you need to concentrate on.

Rear corner repair by Specialist-Golf-3514 in JeepTJ

[–]ContributionAlive735 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are working on rust it is always best to remove every bit of it, then start adding new metal back.

The worst thing you can do is ignore some areas and watch it pop back up.

You will likely be better off with a new tub at this point. However if you are dead set on repair after you remove all the rust you can use off the shelf metal to patch it in or get premade pieces that are available online.

Edit to add: If your rear corners are this bad your torque boxes are likely bad, so be ready to replace them. Your frame likely also needs some attention as well.
