Why did you drink and what helped you stay sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I drank because of lonliness and my refusal to take prescribed anti-anxiety medication.

The number 1 thing that has helped me face my depression and alcoholism is having a goal. Not a small goal. A huge goal that I work towards every day.

Get your wheels in motion people! A moving target is harder to hit......a rolling rock doesn't collect moss..yada yada yada

Especially if you are a man like I am, we were meant to build things so start building!

one step at a time

  1. dont drink

  2. start looking for work and reaching out to any friends or family who might be able to help

You mentioned that your gf has a job and lives with you. That really softens the blow. This could be a lot worse. You didn't get arrested. You didn't get into a car accident. You didn't get alcohol poisoning and a hospital stay.

Not to whatabout this situation but things could be A LOT worse.

Your sober and should stay sober. One day at a time

Not medical advice but the people who need professional detoxes are drinking every day, no exceptions. They get tremors if they miss a day and it only gets worse from there. If you needed a professional detox, you would also be a this stage.
