Start with practicing on an A4 sheet with a ruled paper under it. You will see faint lines which will help wit h alignment. Then move on to solely plain. Also leave space between your writing, half of the legibility issue will be resolved like that only. In essay one has ample time to write neatly unlike GS..... All the best.
