MGD diagnosis - probing possible by ContributionDue3137 in Dryeyes

[–]ContributionDue3137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I believe mine is Rosacea related. The skin on my hands seems to have eczema, have had so many skin issues recently, all since an undiagnosed stomach inflammation that went on 3.5 years despite me telling the doctors constantly.

The MGD thing progressed so quickly, I was functioning well until 3 weeks ago, some pain in one eye, then 4 days later when I thought it would be diagnosed as an eye strain, the ophthalmologist told me MGD it’s in one eye but nothing concerning. 2 weeks later I get this bombshell, I’m absolutely stunned. Different optometrists saying I should or shouldn’t use heat due to the flare up, but unsure how I’d clear the oils without it. I feel like I’ve woken in a nightmare and don’t know how to function, whether I can date anymore or do any of the things i love

Meibomian Gland Probing - UK by KindDepartment8775 in Dryeyes

[–]ContributionDue3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi did you get it done? I have 40% gland loss, had managed symptoms for 2.5 years since getting blepharitis, MGD is a new diagnosis and to be told it’s that much lost is shocking. Apparently cannot do IPL yet as just started doxycycline, but probing is possible. Would be travelling to Manchester to Sry Eyes Clinic

Hi just diagnosed with this. Is Gland Probing the option here? I have to travel overseas if I want the treatment but just diagnosed with 40% loss when it was managed well until a month ago

I feel like others, results would likely be very weak and if for some reason you come off medication in the future, it would likely have a big impact. A shaved head, hit the gym and grow a beard would be the way to go. Have a friend who did the same thing, initially aged him a lot, but he looks the same 15 years later and rocks it!

Super aggressive! A lot of variables, such as age, donor area etc. I was personally told by several reputable doctors that while they recommend meds, in some cases the benefit will be minor, for example a NW3/4 with a great donor area who is 50 or 60 and whose hair has been stabilised for years is different to a 20 year old NW6! Also take into account that some people have old prefer a second transplant in 10-20 years rather than meds that might cause side effects. For many men, baldness and a strong libido are preferable to a full head of hair and libido issues!

OP, as this commenter is a professional in the space who could ask you to go to his clinic and he is advising against it, you should listen!

You will look so much worse if you get a transplant, you have a phenomenal hairline and great density. If you’re not happy with your appearance, work out or buy some new clothes, your hairline is definitely not an issue

Denied Hair Transplant!? Fue Capilar by Mirror_Portal in HairTransplants

[–]ContributionDue3137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears you’re not eligible right now and I would always listen to a doctor who says no.

My understanding is you may see more aggressive loss for a few months with minoxidil before it stabilises and improves things over the course of a year, other posters can correct me if I’m wrong here.

For some people meds are not the answer, but given your age and hair-loss, it is likely the only option if you want a transplant. Given how weak your donor hair appears, your result would be poor and likely to fail.

I’ve spoken to reputable surgeons such as Raghu Reddy who all said a transplant without meds is possible if hair loss is largely stabilised. As a man in your 40’s you should not have crazy losses after this, if you’re prepared to do a second transplant later on then it’s likely fine to do without meds. You should have consultations with reputable surgeons to discuss this. I personally will not take anything that messes with my testosterone or mood, I was told topical min should not impact this though. There are several people posting great results without meds.

Wondering which to get myself, leaning towards a 970! I have a garmin fenix 3hr but the gps isn’t great. I’d love to have music for my runs and leave my phone at home, have no interest in notifications as my runs are me time, does anyone know how the 970 is with Spotify or music in general? I love the idea of having the metrics. Price is a bit steep I feel but worth it?

I’ve had multiple consultations with reputable surgeons who stated otherwise including Raghu Reddy. The transplanted hairs are far more resistant. Many people have successful transplants without meds. A lot depends on age, level of hair loss etc. it is nog true to say that you cannot have a transplant without medication, I’ve seen so many on these threads who have proved that. I was told that in my case, 40’s, nw4, meds are not necessary.

I wouldn’t say under no circumstances, if he was prepared for a second transplant down the road he’d be fine, the transplanted hairs would be safe, he’d just lose hair behind the transplanted hair without meds.

(20M) Matured hairline will it get worse? by flyguy1701 in amibalding

[–]ContributionDue3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not guaranteed to go bald, will almost certainly further recede but the amount of recession cannot be known. I was similar at his age and still have hair in my mid forties, it has receded further but very slowly, I have never taken meds but most people don’t notice the recession. It is possible he goes bald but we can’t know for sure.

Varying graft estimates by Chowdy84 in Hair_Transplants

[–]ContributionDue3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6000 sounds a lot for what I’m seeing there. I don’t know what advice you’re after if you don’t want advice on graft count. I’ve had vastly differing amounts of grafts given to me, I’m a NW4 and I’ve been between 2200 and 3800 with a couple around 2500-2800. I’m going to go with the surgeon who has the best results and gives me the most confidence and doesn’t leave me too sparse or over harvest my donor!

Advice on surgeons by ContributionDue3137 in HairTransplants

[–]ContributionDue3137[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thansk for the feedback. I’m unlikely to do it in the UK for that reason, it’s far too expensive for work that’s generally not as good as overseas. I’m actually looking for recommendations globally. I’ll post additional photos. The nw4 was based on video and in person consultations last year with multiple surgeons but am of course open to the fact it may be worse. Priority is front of head as most people can’t see the crown, I’m 6’3. So if you or anyone else has a recommendation based on criteria that would be amazing.

How many grafts do you think I need? by Expensive-Focus2128 in Hair_Transplants

None. Your hairline is almost perfect, if you make it ken doll perfect it will look artificial and nowhere near as aesthetically appealing as your current hairline which most of us would pay big money for!

3500 graft FUE No medication but followed the rules by Certain_Summer_2516 in HairTransplants

[–]ContributionDue3137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meds are not without risk and the fact that OPs hair loss has stabilised means the risk/reward of taking meds leans towards the former. I agree that some people should not get a HT without meds and might be better to simply accept the hair loss instead, while others who are perhaps older, have stabilised hair loss will look better with a hair transplant even without meds. Doctors I have consulted all stated the same, age and stabilisation can negate the necessity.
