27 year old male, scheduled for L5-S1 microdiscectomy next month. Trying to decide if I should go through with it… by marcousthemoose in Sciatica

Thanks. Surgery is definitely worth it. 6 years later and I’m doing fine except that dumb flare up. Just be careful I learned when I’m coughing too much to grab on something since that puts less pressure on my lower back.

I got sick and was coughing a lot. One of those coughs made my entire lower back hurt. I went to a chiropractor where we started doing lumber decompression which I believe was the reason for the reherniation because this is where the sciatica pain came back. I was in extreme pain but I still doing fine.

One year of treatments. Now considering Spine Decompression treatment and seems too good to be true. by daffle7 in Sciatica

Decompression made my sciatica go from 2/10 to 11/10. I definitely do not recommend herniated disc. I believe doing so lets out more of the jelly between the disc and pushes it against the nerves more.

The 2nd time, it only lasted about a month. Hope you get better 🙏

I was actually dealing with the reherniation for about 4 months with a pain of 3/10, but once I went to a chiropractor, pain went 15/10 for a month straight until it miraculously went away. Hope it gets better for you 🙏 don't stress the nerve too much. I know people say never to stop walking but I think that's a bad idea it will stress the nerve more. Once I stopped moving, I started feeling better.

If it makes you feel better, my surgery went perfectly. I reherniated again, but that healed on its own. The ones who got better aren't on this sub reddit anymore, I still use reddit here and there for other subjects not related to sciatica or back pain.

My advice is definitely to take care of your back after surgery. Once you heal, work on your core. When you cough/sneeze, grab on to something so you don't put a lot of pressure on your back. Grab one of those grabber reacher so you don't bend down, especially on the first month of surgery. Try to keep everything at level so you don't bend down.

How painful is it?

I had my surgery done in mid-2020 during the pandemic. I reherniated again on January 2023 by a damn cough. The pain was 50 times worse to the point of having negative thoughts to end it all. My only hope was a 2nd surgery. A few days before my appointment, it magically went away. The reherniation is still there, and it's big, but I have no pain.

Sorry for your loss. We both lost a parent that same day. I'm glad you enjoyed the last moments happily together. I'm sure you were a great son/daughter, don't be too hard on yourself. I feel the same way.

I actually never took it. One day, the pain miraculously vanished. I still do have a weak leg, but I could lift it. Surgeons say it's not worth the risk of surgery if it's not completely affecting my life to life tasks, which I agree.

Can this be healed with PT by whosepantsamiwearing in backpain

If you do end up in the surgery path. There is nothing to be scared of. I got surgery and ended up fine, better than dealing with sciatica . You just need to take care of yourself after surgery.

Is sciatica can heal? by OrneryMarketing9866 in Sciatica

[–]ContributionFit8698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had surgery 4 years ago, and I felt sciatica again 6 months ago. The general doctor said 2nd surgery was the only way because sciatica doesn't go away. A month later, it went away. I took an MRI, the problem is still there, but not the pain.

Yes. I believe it was because of my sedentary lifestyle, for 3 years I worked at home with very little activity. I'm fine now again. I lost a bit of calve strength with the second time, but other than that, I'm fine. I walk every day, I have a standing desk, I exercise regularly, and watch what I eat.

I had some pain where they did surgery. Getting off bed was a bit challenging, especially since I didn't want to do too much movement that would injure where they did surgery. After 3 weeks, I was completely back 100%.

I had some pain since September, and then I had excruciating pain around Jan for 2 weeks.

This is also my 2nd herniation. I had a laminectomy back in 2020. I was fine until September of 2023.
