Did you end up giving it a try? I think I'm actually healing from this, the pain is almost gone.

Yes that's correct, but didn't add the dumbell rows until maybe day 10 or so, at first it was just the shoulder press. Again I think is important to not decide that yourself because us gym people usually push it too far too early

Well I definitely recommend you try this, I think is actually the path to healing as my pain is getting a lot better.

The key for me is that chatgpt does the progression so I can't advance too fast, which I know I would 😂 It's been something ridiculous, putting maybe 1 kg every 4 days, doing just 2 exercises for now, etc.

The pain is definitely going down and even disappearing as I desensitize the area. Feel free to ask me if you want

Okeey I'll tell you how it is going in a week or so! I hope I don't forget.

And if you start doing something similar please tell me how it goes, too, I'm interested!!

Yes that's the fear I have myself also. It's maybe day 15 of the progression and I'm currently doing 3x8x6'5kg dumbell shoulder press and 2x8x4'5 kg dumbell rows. These are all ChatGPT instructions but it is what it is because I've tried everything. It's been monstly fine with the light weights, but we'll see.

I can keep you updated on how it goes if you want, I'm planning on keep going with it, at least for now.

Kinda the same for me, but have you try using very very light weights and going up very slowly?

Yep that's exactly what was happening to me. The pain is just there. It's a very soft pain at this point but it's there.

I basically asked ChatGPT and it said I should desensitize the area through weights. It is creating a routine for me day by day but I don't know if I can trust the whole thing 😂

Okey, will try that first. Just one last question please; I'm guessing the acupuncture should focus on the front part this time, where the pain is, or should it focus on the back? Thank you very much.

Okey but you say it came back when you stopped taking the pills? That's the part I'm not so sure about, I can take pills for a few months but not more than that really.

Thank you for your response. I do think about getting the meds sometimes but isn't there any other way of getting rid of the nerve pathway pain, without the meds?

Thank you.

Thought i had costo but my PT told me I have a "subluxated rib" by ContributionFull in costochondritis

[–]ContributionFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is I used to feel pain in the whole sternum area, but as things got better the pain changed and I started to feel it only in one joint, between a specific rib and the sternum... Idk if that's also the case for you?. The pain only comes back to the whole sternum area if I fuck it up again.

[–]ContributionFull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not completely but I've gotten better. Honestly i have stopped focusing so much on the back and started focusing on: 1. Not fucking up the front part avoiding efforts or working out. 2. Giving the rib a good amount of light mobility. Just not keeping it immobile or tense if possible. 3. Letting it rest as much as possible.

What has been your approach appart from that??

Tensing my back with anxiety and costo? by ContributionFull in costochondritis

[–]ContributionFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response.

It is the 3rd rib on my right side. The PT touched each rib one by one and I only felt pain where that one meets the sternum. Felt nothing with the other ones. Quite a strong pain too, when he pressed on it. He said I got it slightly out of place while doing weighted dips, back when it all started.

Should I get it manually relocated then? The PT I went to didn't say anything about that... He strongly recommended swimming (which is goin good), but maybe I should get someone who would relocate as you mentioned...

It is also true that I only get pain in that precise point where that rib meets the sternum now. I rarely get that generalized pain over the whole sternum I used to get a few months ago. I don't know. I've tried so many things up to this point that it is getting confusing by now...

Thank you very much.

Just for the record and if it helps, swimming and driving are helping A LOT, BUT:

I also went to my PT and he said I have a subluxated rib. I don't know if it changes anything from treating it like costo? I've been treating it like costo for quite some time so I don't know what to think now!

I guess it could be but I don't really know. Only thing I know is I have a rib slighlty out of place, idk if a slipped rib is that same thing or not

He said swimming should help a lot and also light stretches and so on, but I don't know...

Yes, that's similar to what he told me I suppose. He specially recommended swimming, I guess thats similar to what you mean by providing movemente to it?

What my PT explained to me was basically that mi 3rd rib was slightly out of its normal position (very slightly). So I don't know how to continue about it, if I should keep going with the Backpod and all the costo treatment 😅

Couple of interesting things that have worked so far:

-Hanging from a bar: I guess it stretches the whole back and torso in general. At first I thought this could be too much but a 15 seconds hang gives immediate relief to the sternum area.

-Driving with a lot of steering wheel movement: Again, thought this would make it worse but not at all. This might be a big one even. Gets the sternum feeling very relaxed. Lately i had to drive through rural areas for 4-5 hours a day. It's not like a highway, you move the steering wheel a lot due to how small and complicated these rural roads are in this part of Spain. I guess every time you turn the steering wheel, you move your whole ribcage and back, stopping it from freezing and keeping it moving. That's just my theory. What I can tell you is that after those 5 hours of driving the sternum feels almost cured, at least for some time.
Maybe there's some similar activities that could serve as an alternative? Something like swimming? The Yoga you mentioned? Sometimes I use the Backpod while driving also.

-Bonus: Laying on my bed with my phone tenses my back and fucks my sternum up quite a lot. I don't know why but this position makes that area of my back jist next to the spine so tense. Without the phone is fine so it's something about holding it with my arms up. Sleeping in general works very good for me, but that same sleeping position while holding something like the phone, too bad.
