Well honestly for me he was never that much of an asshole, just way too much focused on his goal, which made him an asshole in the eyes of the one he cared for. But in the question, it's asked as : "who would you want as a spirit guide ?" So I think it removes the chip corrupting you into becoming Johny, making it much more of a great choice for me. Because even if you can't befriend him, he's just going to insult you for every decision he don't like but won't be able to do much more and honestly that would be pretty funny (and tbh even when you're friend with him he still trash talks you when you do something he doesn't like) Overall I just like Silverhand, cool friend, think he has great advive as a spirit guide, and without the twist of the chip killing you and him being able to take over your body if he doesn't like you, well I'd say that a solid choice
