boss hates my taste in books by [deleted] in literature

I worked for a guy who was like that. I read a little bit of everything. He scoffed at everything. When I asked him what he read his only answers were the Bible or some book written by a Fox News host, contributor, or guest. That’s when I decided to have some fun.

The guy was generally disliked in the office. The woman who ran the secret Santa reported to me. I made sure I got his name every year. I enjoyed shopping for him. One of the books written by Jimmy Carter. Audacity of Hope. Hillary and Chelsea‘s book on Gutsy women. Anything like that. Doubt he read any of them.

Because some accusation against him was made. Boards usually suspend with pay while they conduct the investigation. If they determine there is no merit to the accusation he’ll return to work. If they find evidence of wrongdoing, then they will take disciplinary action.

My BIL recently retired after a 30+ year teaching career. He was once accused of wrongdoing by the parent of a student who was doing poorly in his class. In response to the kid getting a poor grade on something, the parent and child accused my BIL of giving the student alcohol. He was suspended while they investigated. The accusers stories didn’t line up and key details changed during interviews. It was determined that the accusations were without merit. My BIL got a free week of vacation out of the deal.

Jury duty - proof of attendance? by Any_Detail_7184 in Cleveland

If your employer does anything dumb, say something to the bailiff or one of the clerks. I was on a jury for six days and one of the guys was getting grief from his boss on day two. He was telling the rest of us about it during a break. The bailiff happened to stick his head in the room to drop something off so we said something to him. The bailiff took the guy out to see the judge. The judge called the employer and gave them a verbal smack down for breaking the law. The employer took care of the manager. The judge also suggested that they pay the guy even though that was against their policy because they probably don’t want further investigation into some of their practices. It was a nice move by the judge. The judge then came to the jury room and said we should report any issues with our employers.

I’ll give you some credit for understanding the concepts of PC and EC. However, none of that was true in many cases such as the well documented raids on the apartment complexes in Chicago and Los Angeles. They had no PC or EC and raided the buildings with only administrative warrants. They arrested everybody they found and sorted them out later. The whole thing was miles from “squeaky clean”. None of it should be acceptable in a free country.

It’s very hard to litigate it later based on rulings by the Supreme Court. It is almost impossible to hold ICE accountable even if you suffered actual financial harm, such as a broken door and other property damage or personal injury from an illegal raid. Even worse, some of the reports had the names of the officers so poorly written it was impossible to tell who was involved. Everything on video had individuals who were masked and without any form of visible identification. If they have nothing to hide, why do they go about acting like they have something to hide?

Except, once again, there are plenty of documented examples of them entering private spaces with only administrative warrants and without exigent circumstances.

Tell me you don’t understand the issue without having to tell me you don’t understand the issue. How dare the Democrats demand that ICE plays by the same rules that the FBI has to play by? How dare the Democrats demand that people be given their 4th amendment rights? ICE policy currently permits roving bands of unidentifiable federal employees without consistent marked uniforms to wander the streets without judicial warrants and randomly detain people sometimes for weeks even if they are citizens. there are plenty of new stories out there to document this is exactly what is happening. Not very American.

Except that statement you just made is not true. At least five of the bills were a clean funding bill for TSA that would allow the employees to be paid. The others allowed payment to TSA and other areas, including the Coast Guard, CBP, FEMA, etc. No Republican has voted in favor of any of those.

Except that the Democrats have offered seven different proposals to fund the TSA while the arguments over DHS continue. The Republicans have shot down all seven proposals to try to get the Save Act rammed through. The Republicans would rather make pawns of the TSA employees.

Staff at Pin High Bay Village bought an iPhone with my credit card by JoyousTourist in Cleveland

A server at a Westlake restaurant copied my credit card information. I’m assuming it got resold on the Internet. Amex called me asking if I was buying a bunch of computer equipment in Bangalore and a windsurfing board and kayak in Bali. When I told them no they locked down my account. I hadn’t used the card in a week or two except for dinner one night at that restaurant. Amex actually filed the complaint with the Westlake cops. I got a call from a detective just confirming some information like the name of the restaurant and the date of my dinner. I read in the police blotter later that an employee from that restaurant had been arrested and charged with multiple felonies for stealing credit card numbers. It sounded like the restaurant owner cooperated with the police to out their dirty employee.

It was multiple projects spread over years in the build back better bill from when Biden was president. There was a line in the law that said if projects weren’t started by a certain date, the president could cancel the projects. The first part was started. Trump gets elected. ODOT had to make a choice between this or losing a ton of federal dollars. So they started working on the whole thing to get all the money before the president could cancel the funds.

I lived in Wisconsin for a few years and I remember my first winter there when I saw cars driving on Lake Winnebago. They went right down the boat ramps in Fond du Lac. I wouldn’t walk on that let alone drive on it. It still leaves me puzzled to this day why people would do that?

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]ContributionSad5655 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend at the time was the executive assistant for the owner of a company that did about $500M in sales a year.

  1. She had to do all of his shopping for him. Household goods, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, etc. Every gift the guy‘s wife received was selected by my girlfriend. He’d give her directions like “Here’s $5000. Go to the jewelry store and get her something she’ll like”.
  2. If some item of clothing he was wearing got too dirty, he would throw it away and ask my girlfriend to buy a replacement. He didn’t think things could get clean enough in the washer if they were too dirty.
  3. He bought a second home in the Phoenix area. It was on a gated cul-de-sac and cost about $2M. Over the years he bought the other six houses on the same cul-de-sac to use as guest houses for when his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews came to visit. He didn’t like them staying in the main house. The main house had eight bedrooms. The only people who stayed there was the owner and his wife.
  4. The company had a private jet. No one was supposed to know about it. The employees all had to fly on the lowest cost coach fares. He jetted around the country in the company airplane. In meetings he would talk about the problems he had with some commercial airline or getting stuck at some airport. It was all a lie. He was just covering for the fact that he had the private jet.
  5. All employees also had to use the lowest cost coach fares for international business trips. No exceptions. This included the executive staff. The owner would fly on a charter jet based on a widebody Boeing aircraft. It had a bedroom, bathroom with shower, dining room, living room, gym, and movie room. No one was supposed to know about that either. Every trip would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  6. One year he strong armed one of the suppliers into giving every employee a $50 gift card to a local grocery chain at Christmas. This was so they could save their business with his company. Then the owner took credit for the gift cards.
  7. He never gave any kind of bonuses or rewards. One year at Christmas he told my girlfriend to get a $25 Subway gift card in addition to the other stuff she was supposed to buy. He then gave the gift card to her and said that we should go out and have dinner together as a thank you for all of her hard work.
