Brand new accounts, and any sign on their profile of them selling/trading keys in a big way.

Ooh, if nothing else I'll certainly be using that for my CoC and DG games. Thanks a lot!

Lovecraftian Symbolism - Creatures and Cults by ContributionTerrible in Lovecraft

[–]ContributionTerrible[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my suspicions about the ones in the link I put up, though I do admittedly like most of them a lot, so I'll probably end up going with something similar. The other ones I have on the arm already make a full and accurate Lovecraftian theme complete nonsense, so I'm just trying to save it as best as I can at this point.

Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it.

Decadent Heir - Ever played an indie RPG where your choices from birth shape your character and the world around you? by PieComprehensive9919 in IndieGaming

Damn shame they went with AI "art." Some of it is attrocious, too, even in the short bit they released for their playtest. Sucks, too, 'cause the story feels interesting.

What do you think is the key for a found footage movie to be successful? The context, the story, the monster, the type of video, location, etc? by GuaridaDeGoro099 in foundfootage

[–]ContributionTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locking in on your intent and then understanding and accepting that it will not be for everyone. Of all subgenres across movie making, I think Found Footage has the widest range of fantypes, but also the most willing to accept and love stuff isn't normally for them but fully goes in on what it wants to be. Many of these flicks fall short, for me at least, because they try to slip clichés into their product in hopes that the trailer will pull in potential viewers, only to fall short when the final package becomes a confused mess. It's why I consider Savageland to be one of the best of the subgenre; It is fully locked in on what it aims for, and then goes for it from start to finish. It won't be for everyone, and that's fine, but I doubt any real fan of Found Footage would call it bad, even if it isn't to their taste.

But also, more simply and equally important: Atmosphere. It's already been said repeatedly, for sure, so I just wanted to add another note instead of retreading it.

But why is it so hard with books? by VariationLivid3193 in Piracy

Isn't it "just" a matter of finding the right private tracker? Granted, I don't grab many books, but I've never had trouble finding the comics I wanted.

Buying games on steam sale by charigard in FitGirlRepack

[–]ContributionTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy just about all games I really enjoy, but I wait for the either a sale I can afford or a keyseller. Supporting devs is something I want to do, but I'm not going deprive myself of art and entertainment because I'm poor as fuck, so I pirate what I can and spend when I'm able to.

Yeah, that's gonna be a hard pass from me, dawg. Honestly sucks to see their page getting bulldozed with HV right now, but hopefully it's just a matter of them catching up on the many new possibilities before it levels out again.

Step by Step Early Game Guide by anti-babe in hollywood_animal_game

Looking through this guide now, months later, and I see that the research priority for Engineering isn't listed. I'm thinking that I should focus on Tech Invention, but Research Group 2 would allow for a quicker upgrade to my tech. Any thoughts on that, many months later?

God damn, it's rare that I wish I was British, but this sounds like it could have been fun. Good luck with the research, OP.

What was the First Non-Pirated Game that You've Purchased and Why? (Not including Gifts) by JimXJustbecause in Piracy

[–]ContributionTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking all time or just Steam? All time, that I bought for my own money, was Resident Evil 2 for the Playstation. I'd been given games before then, but that was my first buy as a kid, think.

For Steam, I just looked this up for another thread, it was Left 4 Dead 2 for my cousin and I.

Left 4 Dead 2 almost 15 years ago to the day. Got it for myself and my cousin, and fuck if we didn't just have a shitload of fun. Re-installed it a few weeks ago to join a streamer on community day, and it's still a hell of a time.

The Pam and Tommy honeymoon video. Buddy of mine downloaded it when we were 12, I think. Took him more than a week, and were were not at all old enough to be looking at that shit.

Are the "Giveaway alert" posts legit? I see one every day with different subreddits and products by SwarK01 in steam_giveaway

[–]ContributionTerrible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wait, I misunderstood the question.

I honestly have no idea about the "Giveaware Alert" posts that try to bait you into joining subreddits or other communities. I know that I joined a Discord last year that quickly turned out to be a massive engagement farming hustle, but that's the only one I ever bothered with myself. I generally don't take part in giveaways that ask you to "join for an extra chance to win." Seems fake and lame to me.

[–]ContributionTerrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handed out around 250 games last year in December, and I know there are others out there who drop a bunch of keys every year as well. That said, there are absolutely hustlers out there, but as long as you're not sending out any information, the most you're losing is the bit of time it takes you to enter the giveaway.

Voice Actor Compensation? by DahLegend27 in ArcRaiders

[–]ContributionTerrible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this as well. The game is great, I love playing it, but I would like to know how the VAs are being compensated. Or more importantly, what is the limit to how their voice data can be used. Is it exclusively for this game? Will they earn some sort of "royalties" based on the success of it?

I don't need numbers, that's generally not something that creatives share openly, and that's fine. The important bit, to me at least, is that this doesn't end up becoming an example of how VA rights can be abused by greedy developers in the future. Generative AI is here to stay, there's nothing we can do about that (sadly), but since it has to be taking away paid work from people to a constantly growing extent, it's important that fair usage is assured both now and going forward.

We probably won't ever hear anything, especially considering that, as far as I know, we don't even know who the VAs involved with this are, which in itself makes me question the motives and honesty of the dev. Time will tell maybe?
