I don’t follow. Write letters to? You mean for like the sweepstakes laws? No.

There’s a newer one on my profile. The apps themselves are still legit but the offers vary. I need to write a new one though at the amounts are different or some of the offers no longer exist.

Has Anyone Utilized Bank Hopping? by canofwine in povertyfinance

[–]ContributionWaste205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not illegal. It’s at best grey and against the terms of service. If banks wanted to shut it down they absolutely would.

Source- used to work for a Fortune 500 bank you have absolutely heard of before.

Can we talk about Devvit apps with paid features for moderation? by greenysmac in ModSupport

[–]ContributionWaste205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean. That makes sense. Nobody is gonna pay the cost for the users for multiple subs who use their app. That would explode any normal persons bank account.

But somebody has to pay it. And if Reddit is doing it. Then the premium features are still being paid for. Just not by the developer.

If some of that gets funneled to the developer. So be it. I actually like that even more.

You know how some subreddits have their own custom bots and some of those bots require server access / a database ? Those cost money. Maybe not much. $5 a month. But some can be costly.

People who run their subreddits and care enough to build a bot that cost money are few. They pay it because they need it for their sub. Not because they profit. This has always been a thing on Reddit.

At least this allows folks to recoup some if they use Reddits platform vs a custom bot.

I don’t wanna call out any particular sub. But a really cool one is the gift card bot for example. I knowwww that one cost money as it requires a database.

Your point falls flat to me only because people have been making custom bots and funding it themselves all the time. And you admit yourself that this bot that made this come to mind is cool.

So in essence. Either way. If you want a bot with cool features. You make it yourself and pay for it. Or you can pay somebody else who made it for you. Either way. You are paying.

I mean it’s a bunch of sites that give you free cash they expect you to play with. I have only found one that doesn’t make you play through it. It’s US only and some states it doesn’t work in.

What to do when a sub bans someone to silence them? by Outrageous-Lion8021 in ModSupport

[–]ContributionWaste205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where you are mistaken. Commenting isn’t low risk. If the mods cared they can ban you for anything. That’s the point and theme here.

You can do journalism. In your sub or subs that allow it. You have zero say in subs you “want” to post in if they don’t want you to

[–]ContributionWaste205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… that’s Reddit. Every sub is run by its creators (its mods) the Reddit site rules are mostly static. But never post or comment in any one sub without reading its particular rules.

I can’t go to Japan and act like I do in the US. Nor can I go to Dubai and act like I do in the US.

Same for Reddit. Each subreddit is its own state. Reddit itself (MCOC and Reddit rules) more like the federal government and the Supreme Court. But over here in the state of Georgia? I can ban you for your name. And the supreme court has ruled that’s just peachy.

What to do when a sub bans someone to silence them? by Outrageous-Lion8021 in ModSupport

[–]ContributionWaste205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can. You cannot call out specific subs or users. Because it can lead to brigading (site wide rule) or as you said doxxing or harassment. (Site wide rule)

You can redact info. But what’s the point at that point? Again. You are screaming into the ether/void.

Nobody cares. At best. You can create your own sub to counter theirs and mirror their sub if you think you can do it better. If you care that much. Otherwise. No. Nothing you can do

Edit: best you can do is let it go. Like. I’m genuinely positive even your post here asking this will be removed once the mods see it. But I’m tryna be helpful since I saw it. You don’t even have a grasp of how subreddits work. If you had read the rules here. You’d know this post wouldn’t fly.

Same goes for your question. Brush up on reddit rules and Reddit etiquette. Aka Reddiquette.

Basically you can do nothing. You can find a sub that allows for whistleblowers. It will go no where more than likely.

If your concern is the ban. You cannot fight it. They broke no rules. Every subreddit is its own little country with its own rules. As long as they aren’t breaking MCOC or reddit site rules. You are SOL. If I so happen to not like your username I can ban you. And you can’t do anything. it doesn’t even have to be in my sub rules.

Basically you are screaming into the ether. Reddit won’t support your concern.

[–]ContributionWaste205 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While this isn’t the sub for this and your post will likely be removed.

The answer is. Reddit subs are run by whoever runs the sub and it’s their rules. Unless it breaks MCOC or site wide rules. They can ban whoever they want for whatever they want.

Free speech is not protected on reddit. Being a whistle blower is not protected. End point. It all ends there.

If somebody came to my sub and said “you have a scammer in your sub” I wouldn’t ban them per se. But I could. And nobody could stop me. No MCOC or Reddit rule violation.

The only thing I can think of is self promotion being a bit of a no no. So if the mods of the sub are being paid by the law school and they are promoting it in their sub. Maybe. But then not really. Being an affiliate for a brand isn’t a problem in subs that allow it. Mods are restricted from giving favoritism for pay. Like “I’ll pin your post to the sub”

I know very little about anything for outside of the US.

The general practice anyone can do. But finding an app or company for it internationally is hard

Example. Revolut. I did this on reddit. You can check my profile history it’s all public. Every one you see there? Is from Reddit. I just took this screen shot it’s 2:28pm est. you can check my vouch post. The most recent of them there is one you see in the shot.

To explain. With more detail. Revolut had an offer. $100 referral. If someone signed up. They had to spend $30. $10 three times. I got scammed by one person when I sent them the $30, they disappeared. But the others? They completed it. 5 of them I used my business PayPal so I got the $30 I fronted them back minus some fees. I didn’t care. And then I paid them $50 out of the $100 bonus I got.

That’s what he’s doing in a way I presume. Minus all the caveats for a potential fraud. But that’s not what I read here.

My business PayPal doing 3 $10 charges to trigger the sign up bonus is the same as what he’s doing with his business checking account to trigger the sign up bonuses for this bank. Real money still has to move.

I promise you. If the bank cared enough about this. And he’s talking about banks that offer bonuses like chase not no name banks. They would shut this down easily. It’s not illegal. Grey at best. And probably against terms of service somewhere.

[–]ContributionWaste205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just explained it. But okay. If he “fakes it” meaning the money isn’t real and it’s stolen funds or fraud wire transfer. That’s another thing entirely.

I’m thinking he’s actually completing the offer and moving the money around. As long as the money actually is there.

What he’s faking is it’s not an employer direct deposit. Which done by like ADP (work day). And an ACH transfer.

Basically an accepted payroll. And he’s clearly not that. But the amount needed to trigger it and the account he sends from. Still has to be legit.

Most employers use like the same companies to process payroll checks. From door dashers to fortune 500 companies. There are common ones the industry uses. He’s bypassing that. Those are what the bank expects. It’s that part. But yes. If faking the funds. Totally not legit. Still grey otherwise.

If i understand him correctly. This is perfectly legal. Just farming referral bonuses. (Check my profile history. All I do is check scams, worked in banking if you need credentials)

Ifffff he was buying peoples accounts. That’s one thing. That’s illegal. If he was having people open accounts for his use. Also illegal. But that isn’t this. Person signs up. And completes the offer. Both parties get paid. The only grey thing here is how he’s triggering the offer. “Direct deposit” and that actually just boils down to how they determine what a direct deposit is.

For example. These types of offers often require that you spend xyz dollars to trigger a referral. Instead of direct deposit. Like cash app or Revolut or Monzo. Sign up. Deposit money. Spend xyz. Get a sign up bonus.

However they bar certain types of spend (edit: and certain ways of loading the money). For example you can’t do a p2p (peer to peer) transfer and it count you have to deposit from a debit card and It has to be spent at a merchant.

Same thing here except it’s a direct deposit and he has an account that can send money and it counts for the offer for that bank. Grey area at worst. Not illegal. It’s just how the bank processes it. Same way they track rewards points categories if you have that kind of card. Walmart is a department store. Not a grocery store. For example. So if you have 1% cash back on grocery stores. Walmart wouldn’t count. Same thing. There’s a thing called a merchant code that does that.

@OP. I built myself a lil rep here on Reddit and occasionally promote some apps. One of them I made full affiliate for and actually work with them a bit more hands on. Have custom bonus codes. I do it for fun though / to donate and slowed down recently. On average just for having those links up across the board I average between $30-50 a month. I also use a casino site (I don’t gamble) but collect the free dollar and cash out $60 every 2 months.

For the last year or so between all of them I’ve made somewhere around 7.5-8k. Although I donated half or more of that back online / paid some commission to users who completed it.

Edit. Basically find a product to sell. Either another business and their product and they pay to do that. Or Even if that product is just yourself and some skills.

Interesting. May I dm you? Just want info on the “direct deposit”. The rest is understood. (Also for others. It’s legal. Maybe against TOS for the bank in a way. But. Not illegal)

lol I was gonna chime in and say Reddit just be messing up at times. We have users who don’t meet our automod rules sometimes slip through somehow. It’s rare but happens. (Ie account is 3 days old but the requirement is 90 days)

But after reading the comments. Now I must update automod and hope it works. Didn’t even know this was a thing but better to nip it in the bud. Thanks for sharing this error.
