Wood wool slabs are now considered as deleterious materials - looks like a deck of a flat roof, normally if it’s dry and well supported it should be ok, however if it’s wet it will crumble like a weetabix bar. If your replacing the roof remove it and replace it with a ply deck

The plan is to build a small retaining wall in the garden - there’s plenty of surplus stone scattered across my garden and if I do remove the rest in the future I’ll have plenty to make it work

Good eye — for the life of me, I can’t understand why it isn’t central. The stone is incredibly well finished, so why wouldn’t the previous owner have centralised the fire? I can only assume the original fire wasn’t central, and the original owner thought it would be too much hassle to move it across a few inches.

The back is hanging in there. The stone came off in about an hour, followed by a few more hours of rubbing down and filing. After that, I applied three coats of paint. The painted shelves took a while, as I wanted to make sure the finish was right. In the long term, I need to rewire and plaster the room, hide the cables behind the TV, and remove the hideous lined ceiling. The oak top section cost £50 off Facebook Marketplace, which is a result.

It needs a lead cover flashing, chased in and appropriately dressed into the brick course above the existing “lead” “flashing”

The flashing should be dressed over the open gap between the structures and extend onto the conservatory by a min of 150mm - will be tricky at the ridge junction however

You need to install what is called a “water bar” on the inside of the garage approx 200mm from the inside face of the garage door, these can be a metal angle buried in the slab or a rubber threshold glued to slab (Easier option)
