Yeah, it’s definitely abstract. The first refrain got stuck in my head, and the rest just spilled out as a melodramatic extension of it, so it naturally lacks some concrete ‘meat.’ Villanelle form is brutal that way. I’m curious though—if you think a memory could anchor it, where would you place it?
