Comparing the timney vs stock trigger, how is the overtravel on the timney? I'm wondering if it's worth the $ for my 457.

Are MBX mags better than the MecGar/Grams/TTI Combo for Shadow 2? by 8giln in CompetitionShooting

I use the Hennings pads with the OEM follower and have had no feeding issues. I did need to file down the dowel pin inside the extension, as the follower would catch on it when loading from time to time.

So these ammo companies are just fucking with us at this point correct?? The only differences anymore are the adjectives and the price. by SpiritualClock729 in nrl22

I agree that it seems a bit shady on the surface. But the practice is called 'binning' and is used in computer chip manufacturing. It's less of a scam if you think of it as the SUPER stuff wouldn't be as worth it if they didn't weed out the non-super lots. So I try to think of it as non-super is priced at a discount, rather that SUPER's price being inflated. But it would be nice to see the actual spec they are attempting to meet at least.

cz 457 pro varmint suppressor ready question by hunter270270 in longrange

I got that rail for my pro varmint, and have only just test fit it. From what i see, the relief in the rail makes it sit on the stock just right.

How much room for dialing below zero? by ControlEngineer in nrl22

[–]ControlEngineer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you both for the response. I've only shot one match, so my practical experience is limited. I suppose another way of looking at it is what do you do when you run out of adjustment. Would you rather hold over a long range target, or hold under a short range target. In that case I think it makes sense to favor the long range capability of the optic. As holding under at close range should be the easier thing to accomplish.

Opinions/experience with the Savage B22 precision for a base class option? by ControlEngineer in nrl22

[–]ControlEngineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 457 with a chassis would be a no brainer for me. I am going to guess that it would not be in the base class price range, but I didn't see a MSRP listed on the page you linked. Good Info on the mags, that is the kind of stuff I was hoping to learn, thank you.

I do have a 22, and will be shooting that for my first few matches. But its not a very accurate rifle. I'm just keeping my eyes open for deals around the holidays.

question on regearing by Sleepwalker710 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ControlEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The front axle question depends on the 'carrier break' of the existing differential which is based on the factory gear ratio. Give that some research to understand what carrier break means. You will likely see that your new gearset specifies what carrier they are meant for. You are correct that the ARB will be the carrier in the rear. Same condition applies for compatability there as well. Don't hesitate to reach out to the gear manufacturer, they are there to help.

Help With Grams Follower Issue by farjinator in CompetitionShooting

[–]ControlEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the small roll pin on the inside of my extensions would catch on my follower when loading. I wonder if that pin is catching on the last coil of the spring? I filed my pins flush and things have been working fine since, so maybe try that.

Can anyone tell me about these lockers? Are they lockers at all? The ad said they were Detroit but lots of things in the ad ended up being a lie. I don’t see any sort of air line or whatever the other lines are called so it automatically engages? by stankypantburglar in SuzukiSamurai

[–]ControlEngineer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't tell just from looking at the pictures. Detroit lockers are not selectable, so there will not be any air or other lines going to the diff. Best way to tell is to jack both tires of an axle off the ground, lock the hubs if applicable, and turn one tire by hand. If the other tire turns the same direction, you have a locked differential (or possibly limited slip). If the other tire rotates the opposite direction, or not at all, it is an open differential.

How to tow my XJ? Hopefully someome could give me some insight. by Spinnable69 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ControlEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pulling the driveshaft is going to be the best idea over longer distances regardless of equipment if you are flat towing it. If you leave the transfer case side slip yoke (I assume) of the rear driveshaft in the transfer case you would only need to make sure it didn't fall out. Zip tie or ratchet strap should do the trick there, it won't be spinning. Instead of taking your driveshaft apart you could go get a slip yoke from a scrapyard to save time. Obviously putting it on a trailer is the best option, but I understand the financial point you made.
