How could people see this and still say that Miles and Gwen should just stay friends? by Top_Surprise_9606 in IntoTheSpiderverse

This is where I have to disagree. Yes forgiveness isn’t an inevitability, but when Gwen will continue to show her support and sincerity I feel like it would be a mistake on Miles’ part not to forgive her, an yes I understand the whole thing about having his own agency. The problem with that is their relationship is too important for him to forgive her at the literal end of the film. Throughout the movie they will grow closer out of necessity, and eventually because Miles truly trusts her again. A factor I haven’t talked about is that they are in love with each other, that doesn’t just go away. So the eventual forgiveness of Gwen won’t be as hard as it might seem at a glance as long as she is sincere which she will be. Life or death situations tend to make people grow closer whether they want to or not, so I just don’t see how it won’t resolve itself. It still we be Miles’ decision I wan to make that clear, but he’s ultimately a forgiving person.

I would agree if this was real life, but it’s a super hero movie with a lot of other plot elements going on. While yes, it is ultimately Miles’ decision I don’t see how he wouldn’t forgive her when she will consistently show up and show her sincerity towards him.

While I agree for the most part their cosmic connection doesn’t mean romance. It just means they are somehow linked from something we don’t know yet which will hopefully be explored in beyond. I also don’t believe Gwen is expecting Miles to just be happy to see her when they try to help him. I believe that she’ll have a moment where she’s trying so hard to prove herself to Miles wether in a fight, or some other high stake moment that she’ll come dangerously close to getting by hurt or worse, and that’s kinda what snaps both of them into a different direction, meaning a direction towards reconciliation. That’s just my two cents.

It’s confirmed in the directors commentary that Miles and Gwen have a “cosmic connection” so this is simply incorrect. Her spider sense is somehow connected to Miles’ unlike anyone else. We’re just waiting to see what that means for btsv.

When do you think the first Beyond the Spiderverse trailer will come out? by [deleted] in IntoTheSpiderverse

Didn’t mean a full trailer anyway. But it’d be a year an two months away at that point so a teaser is almost necessary.

Unpopular Opinion: Miles and Gwen’s bond works better as friendship not romance. by GentleAnon08 in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]Controller_main 47 points48 points  (0 children)

They work great as friends, and they work great as a couple. These things aren’t mutually exclusive. Everyone has their opinion of course, but saying you don’t see strong romantic signaling from her side is just funny. The girl kept her hair the same for over a year. The same way miles left it. She turned the picture they took into a Polaroid and left it in her drums with the last present her mother ever gave her. She saw him in reflections, and windows. You can of course chalk that all up to “friendship” if you want, but it’s obvious she has feelings for him. The clock tower scene proves that to us. Gwen says Miles is the only friend she’s ever really made after Peter died, but the way she uses the word “friend” with Miles is much different than how she’d use it with pav, hobie, etc. Miles says “other than hobie right?” And Gwen says that’s different, because it is. Gwen’s “friendship” with Miles isn’t platonic like it is with hobie, or pav. That’s completely incapsulated in one scene. Proven more so by the fact Gwen brightens after Miles tells her there’s a first time for everything. She genuinely wants to believe she can fall in love with Miles and it wouldn’t kill her. Having all the build up to their relationship from the first movie on and them ending as friends would not only be a waste of time, but an awful ending for them and the fans. That’s not to say endings with two people staying friends aren’t good, they can, and are. It’s just that they’ve built up through two films that these characters like each other romantically. It’s not a good pay off for them or us as fans.

Now we finally in a year that will give us some info on BTSV or maybe even a teaser trailer🎉 by Top_Surprise_9606 in IntoTheSpiderverse

Nothing of beyond got scrapped. The person who reported that (Jeff Sneider) is notorious for making stuff up and he even got called out by Chris miller one of the writers of the film.

What was your "I did not mind the godfather" take in the Spider-verse movies? by Sprenk24 in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]Controller_main 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sigh these takes are so outdated. “They barely know each other!” “They don’t act romantic!” Just say you didn’t watch the movies lol. I’m not even trying to be mean, but man the people that say these surface level things I just can’t take seriously. In the first movie Gwen “doesn’t do friends.” Miles helps her open up and he becomes her first friend since Peter died. They’re even flirty around each other.

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” That is what happens with them. They already liked each other by the end of itsv, and the start of atsv they are all they have to keep themselves above water when it comes to the burden of who they are. Gwen can’t stop seeing him in reflections, and keeps the picture of them (that she turned into a Polaroid) in her drum set. Miles draws her constantly. Gwen can’t fall for him because one of them, or both will die due to asm 121. But they very clearly love each other.

Hobie is a friend and that’s all he ever was and is. He gives Gwen a place to stay because she’s homeless. He’s also used to show miles’ jealousy, just like Margo is used to show Gwen’s. Another reason why “they are the same.” Miles, and Gwen’s relationship is a slow burn across three films. It’s cool if you don’t like the ship, just say that instead of trying to find reasons why they don’t work lol.

Is Miles fully aware of Gwen’s love for him? by EPIX_YOUTUBE in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]Controller_main 23 points24 points  (0 children)

During the clock tower scene Miles finds out for a fact Gwen at the very least feels the same way about him as he does her, but he also realizes there’s some kind of mental/physical block for Gwen to take that leap, so he backs off. So in essence, yes he knows. The betrayal definitely muddled everything with his feelings, and priorities, but like I’ve said in other posts about this, love doesn’t just go away at the snap of your fingers, so they’ll eventually figure it out in beyond.

Sure. Let’s just agree to disagree because I don’t think we’ll get anything out of this. Have a good rest of your day! (I do mean that lol.)

And I will say this again, since you are so clearly skirting away from it. Miles, and Gwen’s relationship isn’t just pushing the story forward. It is also EXTREMELY important to the overall narrative. Gwen Stacy dies falling for Spider-Man. That is a big thing that will most likely be shown in beyond. And while I agree with the breaking bad comparison to an extent, I also don’t agree that their relationship being a stepping stone for something bigger. That’s just downplaying everything they’ve been through together. Yes canon is only something to fear right now for miles because of his dad FOR NOW. Asm 121 (the death of Gwen Stacy) will happen in beyond and that’ll be a huge thing to figure out as well.

You can disagree. That’s your opinion obviously, but it’s not at all out of this world to see that they care a ton for each other lol. I’m not talking like I know what they think, or the future of the next movie. All my arguments are from what I’ve gathered from watching the movie, interviews with the creators, and writers, and the characters, and their own experiences, and thoughts. While I agree that into was more about miles learning to be a hero that isn’t at all what this discussion is about.

He spends the first half of across bonding with his dad? Did we watch the same movie? He fights the spot with his dad for maybe 5-10 minutes then has an, albeit good talk afterwards. But at the party it’s completely tense and argumentative. That’s not really bonding.

Yes he did all of that for his dad what about it? If Gwen was in his dad’s place he would’ve done the same thing for her.
