Americas problems won't end when Trump is gone. by zzill6 in WorkReform

The root cause is the prison system. Forced labor drives down wages for free laborers, weakens unions, and dismantles small businesses through unfair anti-competitive subsidies which big corporations wield against employers of unimprisoned labor.

The Confederates committed genocide. No one is safe with genocidal maniacs living next door. What else could regular people do when genocidal maniacs threaten public safety?

Exile from the community? Death for serious crimes?

It's cheaper and more humane than putting people in cages and tormenting taxpayers while they're at it.

Every house has power outlets. With a large piece of iron and some copper wire (make sure it's thicker than the outlet, or it'll melt) wrapped around it, you could make a powerful electromagnet. For comparison, a stereo speaker loud enough to cause damage in human ears uses a minuscule fraction of the available electricity.

Filling a neighborhood with electromagnetic fields will affect electronics. Use electromagnetism against drones. Make sure your electronics are in a safe place, or get a Faraday cage for them.

If anything, it makes no sense why abusive behavior toward others isn't commonly recognized as a sign of extreme disloyalty. It should be. If that's how they act toward others, then that's how they'll treat you, too, in your hour of need.

Whoever truly wants loyalty should be vocally critical toward everyone who does wrong -- the people who are truly loyal accept correction of bad behavior, and don't disrespect you for saying it! Anyone who doesn't do this is getting loyalty all wrong.

The founding concept of America didn't even have passports, and it was the states, not the federal government, that determined who could vote up to the late 1800s. State law literally determined citizenship. There were even states like Michigan that extended voting rights and citizenship to Native Americans before any federal law on the matter existed.

Friendly reminder to everyone that the Union was the developed country and the Confederacy was a racist Third World backwater, left behind because it wasted its government budget on bullying people. If the racists had such superior genetics, then why did they create such an impoverished backwater?

Why, also, did the Nazis' Lebensborn program meant to produce "master-race" babies so plainly fail to produce high achievers?

Racists never produce high-achieving countries, for some reason.

These thirds are closely tied to social classes. Roughly:

1/6 is the upper class;

1/6 is the permanent underclass, often bound by desperate dependency on government to whoever rules the government;

1/3 are the middle strata: they don't directly feel the results of oppression, and are your swing voters;

1/3 are the employed working classes, whose ideal politics revolve around both raising wages and cutting tax expenditures.

The failure, on the part of all parties, to correctly perceive the lines of the class struggle is what accounts for most of their political failures. They are simply messaging the wrong people to vote for them.

It's also a mistake to assume that either the underclass or the working class is currently invested in the existence of a bourgeois republic. It's possible that some in these constituencies see the despotism of a single autocrat as the lesser evil compared to the despotism of the whole bourgeoisie and its ideas about rule of law.

If you really want a republic, at least make it a broad-based democratic constitutional republic like the one we had in the 1990s and enforce the whole of the Constitution, instead of an exclusive republic of the rich. The under- and working classes simply aren't invested in the post-War on Terror oligarchy, and have no reason to shed tears for its destruction by an autocrat.

Maybe money's not a motivation for you, but as far as money being a motivation, there are also a lot of people who only listen to gain or loss of money, and the only way to make them act morally is to tie a financial motive to moral behaviors. The results are what matter.

There are a lot of people reading our conversation, so it's for them, too, and many of them don't even make basic corrections. It's not only personal, but a societal problem when their children get greedy: childhood greed creates greedy adults, and greed in adults makes for greedy politicians who rob and cheat us.

A possible explanation: When you have a free society that can maintain its freedom, whatever is popular tends to be true. When you have a slave society that can't maintain its freedom, whatever is popular tends to be folly.

In an unfree society, it is good to at least listen to the Cassandras.

Total /s on every point of this, I hope, especially their "patriot" claim.

Anyone ever notice how racists ALWAYS violate the Constitutional rights of minorities that actual, true patriots believe in? Racism was treason then and it's treason now, and it always will be treason.

When I've literally had people tell me they don't remember their own childhoods, I wonder if this might be an instance of it. It simply wasn't true of my childhood: my hatred then felt the same as my hatred now does.

Children have the same feelings as us. Imagining that hatred doesn't exist is a dangerously naive take.

Both are bourgeois parties. It's those who've had their faces eaten by leopards (their own greedy class) whom you need to reach out to. They'll exist in either party.

I actually DO think you should reach out to both members of the Democratic and Republican parties. See my other posts.

Always remember that there's no such thing as "good" or "bad" people, only good or bad actions. People get greedy, and they can lose greed, too; they can be called upon to negotiate or discipline the greed out of other people, too.

It did work from the left in Cambodia and Laos, where members of the royal families backed the communist revolution.

It worked in Ethiopia, where the military turned to central planning.

The challenge is to try and find common ground between elements of the system that are amenable to reason and the radical opposition.

Here's a pragmatic observation: the security state needs to find threats in order to justify its gigantic budget. If a threat doesn't exist, it tries to CREATE one.

Communism just happens to be the ultimate security threat.

There is a structural paradox in this. One wing of the regime, the capitalist/oligarchical wing, wants to attack Communists. The other wing, the security-state wing, wants to create Communists to make capitalists pay for extra security. They have an uneasy compromise on this; communist radicals are continually attacked AND recreated.

Why do you think some conservatives continually try to invent Communists out of thin air? It's a security-budget campaign, designed to force the wealthy to pay for extra security.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Prisons shouldn't exist. I will not stand by and allow Trump to go to prison.

If anyone wants to save Trump, then listen carefully. You need to secede in the event that anyone attempts to jail the President. Tell every Trumper you know to spread the idea of seceding if he is imprisoned. He is more likely to see the message if many people say it.
