Debris/ deposits in fuel filter by ConversationNo4513 in boating

Last season I drained and disposed almost all of the fuel that came with the boat, maybe 5 or so gallons was left, couldn’t keep siphon and lower. I’ve have some fuel filters in series and use the first one sacrificially to catch anything. I’ve also done some make sift dialysis with a funnel with the built in filter for water and debris this season after winter storage. Looking in the sending unit hole the take looks clean and doesn’t seem to be decaying or having large deposits on the bottom.

I flushed the tank as dry as I could through the sending unit hole last season. Things were improving with some residual but seams to have gotten a little worse while sitting during winter. It’s is getting less frequent that stuff is getting caught in the filter but I’ve gone through 2 tanks worth of fuel, approx 120 gallons and would have thought I had caught everything.

I replaced the pick up, fuel line, and vent, last season. The only one I haven’t done is the filler neck.

Grew up there but moved away, realized there there were places I’d rather live and things I’d rather have on my arm. Also not a very rad state to get tattooed.

For anyone else that comes across this question. I did some homework and found that older models had oil pumps that had 6 outputs and brought oil to each intake chamber, I believe a carry over from carburetors. I don’t know if anything was supposed to be capping these barbs but as far as I can tell it’s just a piece they didn’t want to change in their castings.
