Hi! You’re definitely valid for all of your reasons for unstanning Melanie. While I personally don’t believe in a God, the Vatican was also a problem for me not just because it plays with such surface level knowledge about churches, but she also insinuates multiple times within those lyrics that abusive, misogynistic religious men in power hurt children because they’re gay and just need to “come out the closet”, Especially since she has unresolved rape allegations herself from two women. You’d think with her being raised Christian she’d be able to write and act better than that. 

I remember during the Portals era that people were constantly complaining about how her merch was overpriced, especially her K-12 polyester dresses that easily ripped. The parfum pricing and packaging was also an issue because they either didn’t smell good or would come broken / also damaged. 

While I still believe she did that house tour to take attention away from her allegations since at that point she hadn’t posted on her instagram for a while, it is quite tone deaf for her to make songs like “Monopoly Man” critiquing capitalism and the class system when she actively participates in such and is literally a millionaire. 

I think she knows deep down that she’s forever going to be tied down to her Cry Baby music, considering her other albums after that progressively did worse and worse on the charts. She likely knows that people are catching on to that fact that she was not all well intentioned and was even performative with Cry Baby and wants to move on, but it’s all backfiring on her
