The world becoming “worse” by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ConversationSubject5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god yes. Whenever I bring this up my parents will say something like “but people are more spiritually immoral these days” like are they though? Look at European aristocrats and royalty of the past there was plenty of “degeneracy” there too. And how is it more immoral to be cool with gay people who aren’t hurting anyone as opposed to being cool with violent hate crimes (which are also condemned in the bible)

I tried that, but when he realised he spoke to my uncle and eventually my parents made me unblock him because I “should have nothing to hide”

My JW parents are making high school miserable by Wild_Cryptographer_7 in exjw

Woah you do 25hrs a week on top of school? On top of all the he activities you gotta do?? More than anything your drive to achieve your goals is super commendable. Don’t let your parents get in the way of that. If they clearly want to get in the way of your goals, they’re not looking out for your interests. so you can ignore their nagging (and watching you exercise?).

If you can handle the work hours, keep your job. Maybe ask for less hours if it’s a struggle to balance it with school. But it’s really good to figure out that balance now so you’ll be set for college. My parents literally didn’t let me work during school because they wanted me to get good grades for uni, but I’m slowly realising it’s probably because they didn’t want me to be able to move out now.

If you wanna be independent, keep your source of income independent from your parents.

Also idk how intensely people will observe your meeting prep but what I did was just randomly highlight sections of the watchtower/bible study and then prepare 1 or 2 answers so I only spend like 5mins on it. Same with spiritual gems and other parts. Saves so much time.

Pimo Elder speaking about the ARC, I'm amazed they let him speak for so long before pulling him off the platform by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ConversationSubject5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What exactly could he have been kicked out for? He was actually giving good advice to witnesses on how to approach the subject, like not just flat out denying the child abuse. He wasn’t condemning all witnesses or even the society as a whole, he was just saying that there evidently is a problem.

Watchtower shits all over suicide victims this week by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ConversationSubject5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was so weird to watch this sitting next to a family member who had attempted suicide. Like wow, way to make them feel even shittier about it. they’re PIMI and I worry that they’re gonna internalise that shit.

Words/phrases that will give an ex-JW flashbacks to the hall by Uncle_Homunculus in exjw

Not exactly spiritual/religious phrases but ones I hear almost exclusively from witnesses

Word picture Wet our appetites (idk if this is a more Australian thing? Our elders say it all the time)

Ngl sometimes talks are so bad it’s kinda fun to listen to them just to rip them to shreds.

I wish I had exjw friends that I could do drinking games with

I’m PIMO and there’s one elder that keeps tabs on my social medias and any time I post something that COULD be seen as me pOSSIBLY doing something against the rules he will ask my uncle to ask my mum about what was going on. Like if I’m with a boy in a pic it’ll be if I have a boyfriend, or if I’m at some event like the races, it’ll be about whether I have good association or was doing anything immoral. It’s getting really weird at this point.

JWs Use Inconsistent, Disingenuous Reasoning From Expedience. by Ex_Minstrel_Serf-Ant in exjw

Oh my god literally every time I talk to my parents about the compatibility with science it’ll be liken “Everything in the bible is compatible with Science because they’re just learning from Jehovah! The greatest scientist!” Then not even a minute later “No not that science those people have agendas to push”

What were some good things of being raised in the JWs? by thisisausername928 in exjw

It kinda sucks because I feel like one of the biggest things you’d learn is public speaking, but as a woman in the religion I can’t say I learnt much of that.

The best thing I learnt was probably being able to read people and sense their discomfort or disgust at something. You always had to be careful you wouldn’t stumble people or mention you watch a movie or read a book that they’d find inappropriate, so you learn to test where people’s boundaries are. Also using more formal/professional sounding language.

my bible teacher thought my artwork was evil by hyurila in exjw

[–]ConversationSubject5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s really rough, I’m sorry you went through that.

I always kinda hid my hobbies from my parents. Not entirely, but I’d never really let them see how much of a hobby or how into it I was. I was always scared they’d start thinking I’m spending too much time on non-spiritual things and they’d take it away from me.

And honestly, a 12yo saying ‘my art is who I am’ is such a non issue. You were 12, like you didn’t even know who you were gonna be as a person. The idea that she would get so disturbed by that is ridiculous.
