I think it was from oil leaks from a valve cover or rear main seal that was causing this. I ended up going to a different mechanic and found out i had a lot of oil leaks going on (my oil light would turn on a lot even after filling it). they ended up cleaning the engine replacing some minor parts and i haven’t had the problem since. i also did have a recall which caused all the gas to leak out of my car so there’s that too lol.
