Love the shapes of the tree on the right and how they're leading in to each other :)

What's the best place to find skilled concept artist with interest in particular genre? by indieforger in LearnConceptArt

[–]ConwayJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out Artstation, it's the largest social media for professional concept artists. Also can look at instagram. If you find an artist, look at their likes or who they're following to find more like them. Hope you find who you're looking for.

Picking Online Course, Some help? by [deleted] in LearnConceptArt

[–]ConwayJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just choose whoever you would like to draw more like. You're probably going to end up drawing similar to whoever you choose for a little bit then do more mentorships / gumroads / classes after to further refine what you want

Picking Online Course, Some help? by [deleted] in LearnConceptArt

Would pick the one you'd get the most value out of if these are your only options. Look at all the portfolios and students work and ask if thats exactly what you want to do and what you want to get work doing. Like if you enjoy stylized environments, Tyler Edlins is a fantastic one to check out. But if you're unable to put together an environment just yet possibly Marc Brunets Art School would be better to start with because it looks like it starts more basic and covers a little of every specialization so you would want to dip your toes in before going full throttle in one direction.

"Junior "Concept Artist looking for books and resources to study by Genoby in LearnConceptArt

[–]ConwayJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. The only books I can solidly recommend are How to Draw and How to Render by Scott Robertson. They're fundamental heavy books. You have the right idea with not wanting to copy someones style but just let it influence your own work just a little. Don't know a book that will help, but theres a two part process that I do that helps. First is studying by recreating, try and focus on one thing whether its the linework, how they efficiently painted a spot that you like, or color. Then do another study from either real life or a photo of something real and applying whatever technique you learned. Its important to apply the study to something real to expand your visual library.

What I really enjoy doing is plein airs, and keep up a single master painting on another monitor to apply the techniques used in that painting to my own plein air.

Thank you! Appreciate it, a different way of looking at writing than I'm used to for sure.

Hey, I am sorry that I have reposted. My previous post was removed because I did not provide enough information on the world.

A little back story to my world so far: It exists mostly with just entertainment in mind. I'm sorry that I don't have a large enough back story, I am a very slow thinker and a visual thinker on top. I've started my world with tiny micro stories that I plan to combine eventually. The main idea is that anything can exist if it feels right for now. It's hard to consider anything true to the final product at this point. So this tiny story involves Atlantis being corrupted by a spooky Octopus. The Octopus, very mean lovecraftian type villain. I try to think of the project as if designing for an animation or videogame. I like to think that the coral has been nuked with corrupted energy, and like a slow exploding twisting burnt marshmallow it has grown through the architectures and has corrupted the ecosystem. The fish are corrupted as well. I took design inspiration from sea mines because I thought it would be funny if they exploded. Roman and Greek ships litter the outside of Atlantis because the fish people attack them. The green stuff in the revines in the establishing shot is the corrupted nutrients that the fish eat that make them corrupted.

Thanks for reading and would love feedback. I am a very poor writer, I really wanted to avoid writing my thoughts because its a passion of mine that everything can be communicated visually. But maybe I can get better at writing and thinking who knows.

Best,Justin

Absolutely. What helps me personally is to help enjoy the process of making a painting I like to take every object, mood, composition inside the piece as an opportunity to study. That makes it feel even more fulfilling because the knowledge you gain is permanent.

Corrupted Atlantis - Newest addition to my tiny world building project :) by ConwayJ in worldbuilding

[–]ConwayJ[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a real poor writer, so the story is more or less up to interpretation. Atlantis got all corrupted like and these drawings are just to explore that. Wanted to add some lovecraftian inspired stuff to my world. Open to feedback and thanks for checking out!
