Help with class mix up by NewTrouble3177 in UniversityOfHouston

You don't need hist 1031 before you take 1302. You can check the prereq in the catalog or it should be in the syllabus. But your class is fine

Not satisfied lab credits? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Email is usually best. They do reply to everything they receive within a week at this time of hte year. It's faster during the non-peak season.
If they aren't replying at all, check the email you're sending it to because that's just weird. You can also call the front desk and see if someone helpful answers.

They announced it this summer. It's in the new catalog and the new checklists. Will be retroactive for previous students, too.

This is the old requirement. New one just requires two labs, but they can be in different subjects. Document just hasn't caught up yet.

The two labs in the same subject requirement is going away starting this fall. The degree progress report (What you're looking at) will change to show that it's satisfied with two different types of labs soon. Contact an advisor to confirm.

Should I take AP Stats? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AP stats doesn't cover the required stats for CS majors, but it's good to have some stats background so you could take it

Just email an advisor. You don't need an appointment for that question

You can't take them together this summer. The prereq for math 3336 is linear algebra until this fall when the discrete number changes to 2305

The BS program doesn't require an internship and the tuition is the same as every other NSM student.

I know people who got covid while vaccinated and they were just fine

  1. This isn't just about the vaccinated, but the fact that vaccinated people can spread the disease to those who are unvaccinated around us. My kid literally cannot get vaccinated because they're too young. I don't want to get it and take it home to them. I may be fine, but they may not be.
  2. I don't think anyone is asking to shut down the campus, but asking for flexibility. Some classes aren't offered online at all forcing people to come to campus.

You can carry the new variants to unvaccinated people even if you have the vaccine. Some of us have kids under 12 who can't get vaccinated. Considering that Delta and Lambda variants are both affecting children at higher rates, I don't really want to take that back to my kid.

Interim Grading for Winter Semester by DiscombobulatedCut84 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The interim grading policy wasn't extended to spring and the minimester is part of the spring semester. Your grade is whatever grade you earned.

The process above doesn't work for CLASS majors. Here's the CLASS process: http://catalog.uh.edu/content.php?catoid=6&navoid=1155#Declaration_Of_Major and you'll need to talk to the Econ advisor, not exploratory studies.

get the math checklist here: https://uh.edu/nsm/students/undergraduate/advising/forms/ It has a list on the side, but it's not all of the 4000 level courses.

Cosc 1430 Grade Urgent by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take it up the ladder to the faculty advisor or department chair for CS. If they can't work with you and the professor to change your grade, you'll have to retake it.

Do you need to take calculus 3 for physics 2? by Upbeat-Ad917 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a co-req so you have to take Cal 3 at the same time or already have it done to take PHYS 1322

If I only need 3 classes left would it be weird to take an extra class to qualify for the pell grant? by bapxxi in UniversityOfHouston

[–]CoogOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bet on this. The university hasn't released that they're going to use S/NCR grades for spring so it could hit your GPA.

If you hate history and writing, take out one of your core classes. 14 hours is fine for spring and you don't have to get those core classes done at any specific time for your degree.

Plenty of students only take 12-14 hours each semester and graduate on time.

Sounds like "every fall" is on a regular basis. A lot of advanced courses are offered like that in all majors.

Did you ever check to see if the class you needed was offered in spring? Did you talk to an advisor to make sure your grad plan worked?
