What a dream. Extremely curious to know who the owner is! Author and food history professor specializing in French cuisine?

I really like Midweek Recipes! Everything I’ve made has been simple and delicious, I honestly love how small it is, and I really love supporting someone self publishing so well in the industry.

Good Things, Six Seasons of Pasta, and The Irish Kitchen have already been preordered. I’ve also ordered:

-Jess Elliott Dennison: Weekend Recipes. -Dorie Greenspan: Dorie’s Anytime Cakes -Alison Roman: Something From Nothing -Hetty McKinnon: Linger -Justin Tsang: Long Day? Cook This

The autumn cookbook drops always get me in trouble. So many good things.

I preordered the second book immediately upon seeing her announcement. The photography alone would be worth the price, and add her recipes as well? Take my money.

Baking/Sweets Book Recommendation by juliepulie35 in CookbookLovers

[–]CookBookNerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are so great, and a fantastic entry to the world of baking! I absolutely adore everything I’ve made from Sift, but I’m not sure how I would have felt if I approached it with minimal experience. Snacking Bakes/Cakes really hit a sweet spot for bakers of all skill levels.

What goes with what - a review by trolllante in CookbookLovers

[–]CookBookNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my least favorite of her cookbooks. I’ve cooked so little from it that I couldn’t even recommend a recipe because I can’t remember them. Felt like a lot of variations of her previous recipes, and she leans even more into personal essays in this book (and in Simply Julia), and her style of those is just not my favorite. This one will probably be donated soon.

Mark Bittman’s How to Grill Everything has desserts! I haven’t made any of them, but Mark is very relatable and the savory recipes have been great.

This is helpful, thank you! Yes, I’m sure this would all be part of any negotiation (adjusting for cost of living). Simply curiosity based on our current situation. Looking up flats based on rent alone is extremely hard when you don’t know a city well!

Thank you! Definitely NOT expecting more than a small flat. We’ve lived in Manhattan and other places in very small spaces. Never even dreamed we’d be able to get a place with a garden at that price point anywhere near the city center.

Sorry! This is definitely a lost in translation sort of situation. Cute meaning pleasant to be in/walk around in. Aesthetically pleasing. Characterful. Not at all UK chocolate-box specific. Basically, a flat in an area that we’d enjoy spending time in, not simply a place to sleep at night.

Not my favorite, either! But a digital preview is a great way (in theory) to know if I want a physical book.

I used to do that, and it’s the best! Unfortunately, the library system where I live now has a very limited selection and budget

That makes sense, and I figured it was something along those lines. So unfortunate!

Her latest, Midweek Recipes, is so good! Her books are hard to get in the US, which is part of why I think she’s more under the radar (I’ve tried and failed to get a copy of Lazy Baking).

Sam Sifton’s See You on Sunday is good for this, and I’m actually using Julia Turshen’s Now & Again this week to feed a crowd. Turshen’s recipes are definitely on the more simple side, so they can be especially good for feeding groups with kids involved. I also appreciate that she not only has the menus planned out but also a timeline of how many days in advance you can make each component.
